CONSENSES:
The Art work is done!!!
We're up over $100,000 with our matching contribution! (to arrive at the end of the campaign)
PLEASE HELP. I'm asking for 100% participation. Give 5$ if you can. Anything and everything helps.
130 pieces of art are complete! I've spent every ounce of passion & energy on this project for the past 2 years.
I've taken the work of both big and lesser know artists from all over the world (of every medium and genre) and brought them together by asking them to interpret one another's artwork and express it in their own medium.
THIS IS A BLIND AND EGOLESS JOURNEY FOR THE ARTISTS: THEY DON'T KNOW WHO ELSE IS PARTICIPATING IN THE PROJECT OR WHO'S WORK THEY'RE INTERPRETING! ARTISTS HAVE 7 DAYS TO INTERPRET AND EXPRESS THEIR ARTISTIC REACTIONS AND THEY ONLY GET TO SEE THE LAST PEICE OF ART BACK IN THE THREAD OF INSPIRATION.
It's been like a giant artistic game of "Telephone" and it's AWESOME!
This collaborative work needs to see the light of day because it's going to expand people's minds, demystify elitism in art, help artists build audiences, inspire creativity and generate global tolerance & peace.
This is your opportunity to make a tax deductible contribution to something truly unique and special which can change the world.
Mission
How it's gonna change the world:
· Promote equality of perception: CONSENSES grows tolerance for alternative points of view by offering one piece of art as a lens through which to perceive others.
· Demystify elitism associated with art appreciation: CONSENSES allows patrons to identify and interact with the sources behind an artwork’s inspiration. Such interaction clarifies an artwork’s meaning and purpose.
· Help artists grow their audiences: CONSENSES pools all 130 artist’s fan bases (some very well known, some less so) by pooling all the mediums audiences the artists enjoy a larger platform from which to expose their art.
· Support community: CONSENSES brings people together in one place and marinates them in all their senses in order to bringing them into a state of presents and camaraderie.
· Inspire & harness creativity globally: CONSENSES provides "creative spaces" and I-pads to patrons who are interested in participating in the exhibition by engaging in their own creativity: reacting to the work on display and expressing their own interpretations of it.
Other ways you can help:

My friend Sally Taylor has
spent the past 2 years dedicating every ounce of her energy to an artistic project that inspires
creativity and generates global tolerance & peace. The work is complete!!! 130 artists from
all over the world have participated in her project including: Jimmy Buffett, Reggie Watts,
James Taylor, Carly Simon, Wes Craven and Jennifer Nettles. Now she wants
to build a 2 year touring exhibition to present this amazing collaborative.
The way it works is similar a game of “Telephone” where a
musician from New York interprets a photograph, a dancer from Turkey interprets
their song, a painter from Spain interprets their dance, a perfumer from France
interprets their painting, a sculptor from Israel interprets their fragrance
and so on until all of the senses are represented. The viewers of this
project’s exhibit become the last link in the artistic chain by interpreting it
for themselves.
Check it out here and help! $20,000
is on the line if she can get matching contribution by CHRISTMAS. Donations are tax deductible and prizes are available!

MORE ABOUT THE PROJECT (If you really want to know)
My Story:
I grew up on the island of Martha’s Vineyard, in a deeply artistic community, the daughter of two acclaimed musicians, Carly Simon & James Taylor.
When I was a kid, my family played a game we called “Essences.” A player selected a person in his/her mind and the rest of the players had to guess their identity by asking metaphorical questions about their essence: (i.e., “If this person were a color, what color would they be?” “If this person were an animal, what would they be” “If they were a song?... a beverage?…a landscape, what would they be?”)
For example:
MOM: If my mom was a color, for me, she'd be cinnamon. If she were an sound she'd be an echo across a deep & wide canyon. A sensation? The first spring dip in a pool. An expression? Raised eyes off a lowered chin. A food? Gazpacho.
![]()
DAD: If my dad were a sound he'd be the steady toll of a buoy. If he were a beverage he'd be sharp crisp ginger beer. A color? midnight blue. A sensation? Riding a slow moving train at sunset. A texture? firewood.
![]()
Once the individual’s identity was revealed, a conversation regarding the variations of all our perceptions ensued. “Essences, ” offered me insight into other people's perspectives and introduced art as language which revealed a greater truth than spoken language alone.
In college, while studying Anthropology, I heard an ancient Indian fable about Six Blind men & An Elephant:
![]()
Six blind men happen upon an elephant in the middle of a road. Each man touches the elephant’s body and separately concludes what it must be: the first man, holding the elephant’s tail, insists the elephant is a rope; the second man (exploring the leg) decides the elephant must be a tree; the third man – touching the ear – determines the elephant is a fan; and so on. Their discourse becomes contentious, as the men grow righteous in their individual perceptions. It is only when a king appears and suggests the men listen to one another, each offering a piece of the object’s whole, that the elephant’s true identity is revealed.
The fable and game of “Essences” both expose the dilemma of our separateness. We can't possibly understand the mystery of the universe on our own! Equipped with five senses, we can only explore a fraction of our world. Yet once armed with limited perspectives we often imagine we understand the greater whole, allying or condemning others in accordance to their agreement with our understanding.
CONSENSES acknowledges that more can and should be revealed working together (through the language of art) as opposed to ignorantly protecting our limited perspectives.
How it Works:
CONSENSES asks artists of one medium to interpret the art of another in the vein of a game of Telephone: a musician interprets a photograph, a painter interprets their song, a dancer interprets the painting, a perfumer interprets the dance, a poet interprets the perfume and so on until all the senses are represented. Each artist extracts the essence of the piece they are provided and uses it as the catalyst for their own creation. Ultimately, this process forms what CONSENSES has termed “Interpretative Chains”: a collective, holistic statement; an intriguing procession from one piece to the next; the revealing of a unique glimpse into the artistic process and the complexity of perception.
![]()
None of the artists are privy to the identities of the other participants (which means no one knows who’s art they are receiving nor who will be interpreting their work). In addition, each artist has but 7 days to produce their interpretive expression so as to keep the integrity of their original interpretation intact.
The Goal: Exhibit
We want to show CONSENSES' extraordinary collaborative, multicultural sensual festival!
![]()
With your
help, $95,000 will go to creating CONSENSES’ glorious interactive exhibition,
giving it some legs and launching it out onto a 2 year world tour.
The exhibit
will be an exquisite festival for the senses housing the work of 130 artists
from 23 different countries.
Visitors will be immersed in a sea of collaborative multi-cultural
works: photography, dance, music, painting, film, perfume, poetry, sculpture,
food and fashion. I-pads provided,
will invite and support visitor’s participation. By interpreting the art for themselves and responding,
visitors become the last link in the creative chain reaction!
![]()
With the
additional $55,000 CONSENSES will make a documentary. We will bring all the artists together to meet one another for the first time and give them the opportunity to explore their work through one another’s eyes. We will document & capture the artist's interactions, conversations and revelations which will reveal our connectedness and our humanity. The documentary will tour along side the exhibit but also will have a life of
it’s own touring theaters and film festivals.
Anything we
raise above and beyond (if we should dream of such a thing) will go
towards the creation of an interactive website, spuring the next CONSENSES project, bringing CONSENSES into schools and finding
and inspiring the next generation of CONSENSES artists.

What Artists are saying:
“This
project made my heart all nice and warm and sort of made believe in magic a bit
more. “-Kristin Vestgard (painter)
”I wish
more projects like this would come along. I have now an irresistible curiosity
to see all the other projects and meet all the other artists. Sally has put
together and amazing Leviathan of works of Art, she is a courageous and
enlightened woman! We need more people like her.” Laura Luchetti (filmmaker)
“I enjoyed
the entire CONSENSES process; collaboration, communication and a twist of
mystery. I feel that this idea of collaborative curation is fascinating, and I
hope that it’s an ongoing process that inspires more of the same. Community is
integral to the arts, and this is one of the few artistic endeavors in which
I've participated that explicitly builds it.” – Dennis Svoronos (sculptor)
“This is
the saddest song I've ever written!
But, I felt so relieved when it was finished. Like I'd hit rock bottom and there was nothing to fear,
nowhere to go but up. It felt like
an honest moment that somehow made me trust my instincts again.” -Kori
Withers (Musician)
“Thank you
Sally it was such an honor and a pleasure to participate in t CONSENSES and I
am looking forward to seeing how it all comes together. Please keep me in mind
for the opening I would love to perform live with the music or some rendition
of that.” Tara Rynder (Dancer)
“I enjoyed
this project very much. I'm thrilled about the idea of my work being
interpreted by another artist and following the artistic chain
reaction.”-Fernando Hernando Magadan (dancer)
“This
project was a lot of fun for us.
The time frame and direction to intuit the essence of the music aided us
in generating material freely without overanalyzing. It was truly a magical week! “-Barkin/Selissen
(dancers)
“I liked
taking a method I already use and being given a great chance to connect that to
others works of art. That it is part of something greater is an exciting
thought. I love the idea of everyone interpreting someone else's art into their
own.” –Nicki Sherrit Lewis (Perfumer)
“I
greatly enjoyed this project. I think it’s very important to get out of my
groove and participate in something that’s different. I think it’s an exciting
idea and I’d love to see what comes
before and what comes after. What will become of my memory? And what does
this painting mean to the painter? Brent Leonesio (perfume)
