Couch House Detroit
Inspired by the Couch House in Cleveland, I want to create a place for people visiting Detroit to truly begin to get to know the city. Couch House Detroit will be a home for people to share as they explore and build community during their visits to Detroit.
So often, people tell me that they're afraid to visit Detroit. You hear so much about how dangerous it is in the news that it becomes difficult to see all the wonderful ways the city is being revitalized. We've got a long way to go, but I think one of the first steps to rebuilding Detroit is showing people firsthand what it's really like and getting them to feel invested in the community.
I found a 101-year old duplex in the Virginia Park neighborhood that would be perfect for this project and won the bidding on it back in May. Though the purchase price of the house is relatively low, the cost of rehabbing it will be considerable. It's a gorgeous old place that deserves to be renovated rather than razed and has incredible potential as a Couch House.
Please, in whatever way you can, help me realize that potential. THANK YOU!
