Hi, My name is Kate and I'm a young deaf woman (with mild sloping to severe/profound hearing loss in both ears). I wear hearing aids in both ears. Due to my hearing impairment, I have been unable to find work in recent years and I struggle to make ends meet. My hearing impairment means I cannot hear on the phones (which most jobs have asked and required me to do) and my speech is affected by my hearing loss and thus I feel I am discriminated against in the hunt for a job due to my disability.
I’ve been really struggling financially for quite a while now, so I’ve decided to try and seek help from generous individuals. (No easy task for me to do, believe me). I absolutely despise asking other people for help; I feel like I am so unworthy of receiving help most of the time, but I DO need help and sometimes you have to swallow your pride and reach out to those around you.
So, I’ve made a crowdfunding plea and would like to ask that those of you generous enough to read and contribute, know that I deeply appreciate any help I may receive from this. You don’t have to contribute yourself; I understand everyone is not in a position to offer help and I thank you for taking the time to read this either way but if you’d be willing to share this post, I would appreciate that also. Negative comments are unnecessary, we all go through hard times; sometimes I need to remember than I’m not alone and I can ask for help.
I am hoping to use any funds I may be lucky enough to receive to buy interview/professional clothing for interviews, pay for my driver's license, and to use towards groceries and bills.
Even just $5 can pay for the bus fares for my job interviews, $30 would cover phone bills and $50 would cover nearly a week's worth of groceries.
(The lowest amount you can ask for is $500, which is more than enough for what I would normally ask for. Any excess would go into savings, towards getting driver's license and driving lessons and saved for future bond payments for when I move at end of the year).
It's incredibly hard for me to ask for help but sometimes one needs to acknowledge their flaws, put aside their pride and reach out for help.
Any contribution would be greatly appreciated and would vastly affect me in such a hugely positive way. Thank you in advance for helping this struggling, deaf girl get by.
