Ecuador Earthquake Relief in Vancouver
On April 16, 2016 a 7.8 magnitude earthquake struck the coast of Ecuador killing over 500 persons and injuring over 4.000. The death toll continues to rise as rescuers are trying to find survivors under the rubble. Due to the disaster there are places where damages have left 100% of losses in lives and infrastructure. Small towns and communities are completely destroyed, unreachable due to road destruction and communication breakdown. These towns also lacked of infrastructure, there was never a good water supply system or construction system. Thus everything went down instantly.
There is now, the opportunity to give hope back to these people. Not only by offering immediate remedies, but long-lasting solutions. With this fund we want to start a campaign to raise awareness of the roots of many problems in Ecuador and South America and also give new seeds of possibilities. We want to direct these funds to the reconstruction and reinvestment in infrastructure.
Right now Ecuador faces an economic crisis. This means public resources are not available. Government is not able to supply solutions as there is no money. And with coming needs from the disaster the less it will be available. We find that the most important effect we can make should be a permanent one. By taking the initiative to re-build Ecuador into a long lasting sustainable infrastructure.
We are part of a growing community of Ecuadorians and international people that are willing to help in the reconstruction process of these small towns and communities. The Entrepreneurship and Innovation Alliance of Ecuador (ww.aei.ec) is a partner group that have organized a funding strategy to send money for fostering economic development in these places.
The donations raised will have to objectives:
To Provide temporary employment in public projects (such as repairing roads, clearing debris or re-building infrastructure) to he most vulnerable segments of the population affected by the earthquake.
The loans will be directed towards owners of enterprises willing to rebuild their businesses who will have preferential conditions in order to have easy access to the resources that will allow them to start operating as soon as possible.
