Eidolon Panspermia Ostentatia Duodenum is a voronoi-inspired open-cell mycelial ovoid structure representing a possible matrix manifold of the panspermia transportation vesicle designed to inspire a profound sense of apophenia. In other words, ePOD is a 21 foot tall and 22 foot wide interactive steel sculpture featuring a rotating, climbable structure with a central lighting system. We received partial funding through an Honorarium Burning Man grant but are still far short of the funds needed to complete a project as involved as this. So, to overcome large obstacles ahead and maintain our general mental health, we are seeking help from generous souls to bring this project to life fully.
ePOD is a lattice work of lacy jungle gym designed specifically for its participants' pleasure. It's 5 tons of twisted spinning steel straight from your childhood dreams. After the suns sets, light will emanate from its central orb sending shadows stretching across the playa. With your help, this playground mothership will allow you and your friends to scramble and climb trans-dimensionally around the massive oblate spheroid.
We need $15,000 to fully fund ePOD. The engineering challenges of creating a kinetic sculpture of this scale are considerable and add another level not normally encountered in the building process. Your pledge, however large, will contribute to making this creation truly come alive for people to enjoy. For those interested in a tax-deductible option, Black Rock Arts Foundation can accept donations here.
For your pledges, we're offering everything from ridiculously stupid mad props to uncomfortably long telepresent hugs of appreciation. More seriously, we'll have signed custom metallic prints of ePOD at Burning Man from our photographer, Anne Stavely. For larger pledges, we're offering ePOD medallions, framed original concept art, and two different incredible models.
We'll keep all our supporters updated as we work towards ePOD's final installation in the Black Rock Desert.
Our worst-case scenario simply means the final piece will not match our initial dream of having it move and hold a hundred people. This would be sad
