Short Summary
Hey, there! I'm Anna Brown, and this fall will be my last semester as an undergraduate film student at the University of New Orleans.
I have the pleasure of directing the UNO Filmmakers' film, "Exposure Therapy." Written by Abbie Graffeo, a recent UNO film graduate, this film tells the story of Joseph Honeycutt, Jr. and how he overcomes his crippling agoraphobia to have dinner with his next door neighbor, Annie Golden. The film is full of quirky humor and heartfelt breakthroughs as Joe and Annie grow to know each other better.
This is the second film I've directed with the UNO Filmmakers, my first being "Shifting Lights." I shot this original romantic comedy during my sophomore year, and I've grown tremendously since from several opportunities in and out of school.
By donating to this project, you'll be helping to make this unique story come to life on screen. So many people have already put their hearts into this project, and there will be much more hard work before it's over. We plan to submit the finished film to festivals around the country.
What We Need & What You Get
Our goal for the film is $1,500. We need funds for the following needs:
- Art Department: set dressing, wardrobe, make-up, props, etc.
- Electric/Grip: We'll be renting lighting and grip equipment in order to make our film look and feel fantastic.
- Craft Services/Catering: Feeding our cast and crew is a high priority. We wanna make sure we feed them well so they have energy to get through the long days.
- Locations: We plan to compensate our homeowners who have generously donated their homes to the film.
- Actors: Our actors will be putting in a lot of time and effort into portraying these characters, and we'd like to show them our appreciation.
Even if we don't reach the entire goal, every bit counts. Check out our perks on the side of the page! Cool SWAG to come! :)
The Impact
Hollywood filmmaking is already well established in New Orleans, but local filmmakers sometimes struggle to have their projects made and seen. We wanna prove that local stories are worth telling, and local crews are just the people to tell those tales. By donating to this film (and local filmmakers,) you're making a larger statement about the independent film industry in New Orleans, in America, and around the world.
Risks & Challenges
Making films on any budget is difficult, but making films on a limited budget can seem almost impossible. Some of the challenges that face this project include getting all the required materials to tell the story to its full potential as well as having a tight time frame in which to shoot.
Having directed with this club (UNO Filmmakers) before, I've already faced similar hurdles. I've experience the pressure of getting a film shot in three days and subsequently cut in three weeks. Throughout the process, I find my role as the director includes setting the tone on set and during the entire production. I want people to look back on the experience of shooting as a pleasant one in which they were challenged in new ways and made new friends. It's also important to me that crew and cast members view a finished film that they can be proud of.
Other Ways You Can Help
If you can't donate monetarily, no worries! We'd love to have your support elsewhere. You can help by telling others about the film.
