Family Play Therapy Training Experience
At heart, I am a helper.
If anyone told me I would see myself a helper prior to my twenties, I would have laughed in their face, straight up. I had to experience true giving and sacrifice to realize that part of myself.
I love children and I help children in a way that encourages them to be who they are, feel what they need to feel, express what they want, and help them navigate through what they need to do to get it. There will always be expectations and disappointments in life. Learning to manage uncertainty, failure, and doubt early on helps us to manage it as we enter adulthood. It fosters resilience and confidence, two character traits that I believe humans need to truly thrive in life.
I don't ask for help. I help others as much as I can. It's taken a long time to figure out a balance of helping without sacrificing too much of myself and, honestly, I'm still figuring out the balance.
The last few years have been a journey. I've been seeking out what truly matters to me and what impact I want the life I live to have. Once I stopped running from my calling and started running toward it, my entire life changed. I'm in graduate school studying Counseling. I want to help children and families come together and support each other in their own life journey. This is a fundraiser to help me do that through hands-on practice of Family Therapy.
I will gain over 70 hands-on training hours towards licensure in just one week. This usually takes months to achieve and I will be learning from the best of the best, all while helping real families come together while they are on their vacation.
Every couple of years Southern Methodist University offers a chance for Master's Level Counseling students to go on a Disney Cruise and facilitate family therapy sessions to guests on the cruise. I would like to be one of those facilitators.
It's unusual for me to ask for financial help outside of my family, but there is no other way for me to attend. I try to help others to the best of my ability through acts of service, and I would love if you could help me through this gift.
