Lots of trial
and error resulted in the development of alpaca socks that perform consistently in variable conditions, provide moisture wicking, regulate based on warm and cold temperatures, offer antimicrobial protection, hypoallergenic relief, and are durable and washer/dryer safe. These unique properties led to the creation of
Kentucky Royalty and later
Altera
Alpaca, which are offered in the pledge items.

Thankfully
people said they loved the socks and so their business grew, but they started
having trouble getting the processed fiber from U.S. ranches and farms that they needed. Turns out Shawn wasn't the only product maker with this problem. The
fiber is here in the U.S., but the small mills spread across the country aren’t
enough to respond to the growing demand. Shawn continues with saying:
"I
started talking with other alpaca fiber growers and then expanded the
conversation to mohair, bison, and cashmere fiber growers. Everyone seemed to
be experiencing the same issue. So, we put our heads together and different
groups chipped in land, buildings, equipment, and resources and suddenly US
Natural Fibers was born."

US Natural Fibers was established to empower small
producers and entrepreneurs involved in the natural fiber industry by
providing cost-effective essential processing and product development
services.

We are in the business of transforming raw natural fibers into high performance products. Specializing in alpaca and mohair fibers, US Natural Fibers
also works with llama, bison, yak, qivuit, and cashmere.
For fashion,
comfort, and utility, these natural fibers provide durable, petro-chemical free
alternatives to synthetics and vegetable fiber based products.

US Natural Fibers is part of a growing community of
committed, talented, and energetic farmers, rancher, artists, and product
makers dedicated to the rebirth of U.S. textiles. The US Natural Fibers plant opened in September 2015 and
orders are flowing in rapidly but we’ve bumped into a good problem to have:
Soon we’ll run out of capacity to dry the fiber, a critical step in the natural
fiber processing lifecycle. This is why we are asking for your support here.

With a substantial amount of money already raised for the equipment at US Natural
Fibers, we thought we could squeeze by with a smaller dryer. We’re happy to
report as word spread about what we’re doing orders flowed in from
all over the country and beyond.
But…our little dryer can only do so much, which means we
need a new dryer sooner than later. We’ve raised $100,000 of the $125,000 needed to purchase it.
Because we’re short, we’re asking for your help with the remaining balance of
$25,000.
