Free education for Cambodian kids, HELP NOW!
Our story;
ECC is a nonprofit school created in 2014 by Savon and Savuth, in a village outside of Siem Reap.
The main goal is teaching languages to children from low income families for free. Some families cannot afford the monthly fee of 6000 Riel (1.50 USD) for public schools and therefore places like ECC are their only opportunity to access free education. English is the primary language taught, but we also offer classes to learn French, Japanese, Korean, and Mandarin. The school is run by a host of volunteers.
Savon and Savuth believe that education is the way out of poverty and want to give young students a chance of success by offering these language classes to all levels and ages.
This is extremely beneficial for the students for two reasons:
Cambodian schools only teach English at a very basic level and the dropout rate in Grade 12 is high (59%). This puts Cambodian students behind other SE Asian countries in terms of education levels and English language skills.
Siem Reap is a tourist destination due to its proximity to Angkor Wat. The knowledge of English and other languages provides a pathway into bright careers.
We have six classrooms on site and we have recently added two more at a nearby Pagoda (temple). We also have a classroom at the local village public school where we provide 30 English lessons per week.
We hope to keep being able to provide free education to disadvantaged members of our community and we need you help to continue doing this work! Please support us in lifting our community members out of poverty through education.
