Overview
The George Street Co-op is a non-profit health food store with bulk food options, local products, and a vegan cafe. As a cooperative, members own the business, volunteers help run the store, and community-building events are held in the cafe space upstairs. The co-op is "A place for people who value healthy food, a healthy planet, and cooperation." For a healthy planet, please help the George Street Co-op improve its refrigerant management system.

Project Drawdown

This initiative is inspired by Project Drawdown, an organization that identifies solutions for global warming by deploying climate solutions as quickly, safely and equitably as possible.

Main takeaways are:

  • The #1 way of lowering greenhouse gas emissions is to improve Refrigerant Management.
  • Substitutes are already on the market, including natural refrigerants such as carbon dioxide.
  • Phasing out HFCs could avoid additional emissions equivalent to 25 to 78 GIGATONS of carbon dioxide.

What We Need & What You Get

The George Street Co-op needs:

  • $10,000.00 to launch the Energy Efficiency Initiative.
    • This includes working with an experienced refrigeration management consultant, applying for grants, and properly disposing of the current refrigeration system. Funds will also be allocated to replacing the current refrigeration system with an environmentally-friendly one, powered by natural refrigerants.

What you get:

  • Your impact will improve the quality of life at the Co-op and improve the energy efficiency of the Co-op's refrigeration system.
  • Energy savings will be used to fund more energy efficiency projects, creating a positive feedback loop.
  • You will receive sincere gratitude from a loving community of dedicated individuals.
