About us

We are a group of female  football players based in Bologna (Italy). We usually play in different teams, but occasionally we unite under the flag of Brigata della Pace ("Brigade of Peace": you can find us on Facebook) in order to take part to events aimed at raising awareness about discrimination in sport, with a focus on feminist and pro-LGBTQ activities. For some years now we have taken part in several national and international festivals. This year we decided to be even more involved: we have established a partnership with UISP (one of Italy's biggest amateur sport association: http://www.uisp.it/nazionale/), with the aim of bringing as many female and mixed football teams we can to Italy's biggest international amateur football tournament: Mondiali Antirazzisti (lit. "Anti-racist World Cup"). This is how we came up with GoALL....

...What is GoALL?

In your life you've probably heard that men and women can't compete in sports together. Our aim is to avert this preconception by showing that women's and mixed teams can play in the same tournament with masculine teams. Our belief stems from some considerations:

1) The two categories of "men" and "women", in sports like in every other social activity, fail to account for the range of gender identities and expressions human beings come in. This results in a permanent discrimination of people who present themselves in a gender non-conforming manner.

2) In an amateur and relaxed setting, where nothing is at stake but playing, learning and having fun is more important than winning the game (even though everyone loves winning, of course...), so the issue of physical imbalance is not even a real issue

3) By sharing the field with male teams, non-male teams will also share their public, raising visibility and awareness for their cause in a set of people which may otherwise ignore it.

GoALL is a project designed to encourage women's and mixed football teams to reclaim the pitch. We wish to overcome the boundary between men's and women's football by making mixed matches a reality in the best setting we can envisage for this experiment: that of Mondiali Antirazzisti.

What is Mondiali Antirazzisti?

GoALL is made possible thanks to the partnership with UISP and Mondiali Antirazzisti, an international, 7-a-side football tournament held every summer in a large park area called Bosco Albergati, about 25 km from Bologna. The festival was born as a means to strengthen a racism-free approach to sports among both players and supporters, but with the years it has developed as a moment of socialiaztion addressed against every kind of discrimination. Attendance to the tournament is free, and so it is camping on-site for the whole duration of the event. In 2016, in their 20th anniversary, Mondiali Antirazzisti attracted 184 football teams from a diverse national background, including refugees and migrants, with about 7.000 people taking part in the event. Besides sport, the festival features a great cultural and entertainment program, with activities ranging from debates and discussions to live music and DJ-sets.

This year, the inclusion of the project GoALL in the program ensures more efforts will be devoted to addressing discrimination based on gender and sexual orientation.

What do we need?

Economical support in order to give the amazing teams who can not afford the journey the opportunity to come to Mondiali Antirazzisti and joining our event.

Who are they?

Two teams from Turkey, one from Portugal and one from Serbia.

We would appreciate any kind of support. Help us to give birth to this amazing project!!!

the GoALL team.
