What
is The Great Lakes Youth Development Project?
We are five college students working toward a goal
of creating a healthier, more sustainable, community. We’ve teamed up alongside
the Great Lakes Center for Youth Development (GLCYD) in order to raise money and awareness for local non-profit organizations that are always in need of
additional funding from people like you. To keep up with all that we are doing follow us on Twitter @GLYouthProject or like our Facebook page .https://www.facebook.com/GreatLakesYouthDevelop....
What
is the GLYCD?
The GLCYD provides youth-serving and nonprofit
organizations with expertise, training and learning opportunities so that all
youth can thrive in healthy communities across Michigan’s Upper Peninsula.
Our focus on positive youth development leads us to
serve all regional nonprofits. A strong nonprofit community is essential to
creating a healthy environment for youth. Nonprofit organizations play a key
role in our region—serving children and families and making this a great place
to live.
The Center supports these organizations by providing
skill building workshops, tailored consulting and training, and spreading the
word on new ideas, technology and other resources.
Who
is in need of your support?
Revolutions
Revolutions
belief is that kids need and want somewhere to go and something to do. They are
dedicated to helping youth learn to enjoy bikes and biking, skis and skiing,
the outdoors, and finding something constructive to do with their time. They
are interested in helping kids become bicycle enthusiasts, not just mountain
bikers; winter enthusiasts, not just ski racers. Revolutions urges kids to feel
like they are contributing and are an important part of the community.
Marquette Maritime Museum
The
Marquette Maritime Museum Association began in 1980. The Museum was opened in the old City
Waterworks building in the summer of 1982. Last year there were approximately
12,000 visitors to the museum. During the summer months, the museum is staffed
with two full-time workers. The bulk of the effort is accomplished through
volunteers. The museum educates and entertains youth about the Great Lakes and
its nautical history through the museum and its historical lighthouse. Your
contribution helps to continue this proud landmark’s benefit to our youth’s
continued education of our five Great Lakes.
Women’s Center
The
Women's Center is a community focused non-profit organization based in
Marquette, Michigan, which provides 24/7 access to emergency intervention
services and crisis intervention to the regional area. Individual & support
group counseling and advocacy services are provided to survivors of domestic
and sexual violence, dating violence and stalking through programs that
Protect, Educate, Advocate, Counsel and Empower (PEACE). For 40 years, it has
been our mission to support survivors, to educate and encourage sensitive
public awareness and to work relentlessly to change the attitudes that allow these
violent crimes to continue. There is no charge for shelter or support services.
All services are paid for through fundraising, grants and donations from our
community. The need is real and the
urgency is extreme!
The Lake Superior Village Youth
& Family Center
The
Lake Superior Village Youth & Family Center (LSV YFC) provides a safe place
for kids after school and in the summer. Located at Lake Superior Village, a
part of the Marquette Housing Commission’s low income housing communities in
Marquette, the Youth & Family Center serves 60+ youth by providing a safe
environment, homework help and a support system while building their
developmental assets. The free after-school program provides supervised
activities for youth ages 5 to 17. The program includes a daily healthy snack,
tutoring, homework help and daily activities. Since the YMCA manages the
program, youth are able to participate in YMCA programs such as Spring Break
Camp and Summer Day Camp. The Center teaches daily living skills through
programs like the 4-H Cooking Club where they learn to cook simple meals and
make healthy snacks. Field trips offer special opportunities such as kayaking,
snowshoeing and nature walks.
All of our funds are restricted to the betterment of the four organizations described above.
