I cried, jumped, screamed, and smiled all at once!

Reading the news of what I have dreamt all life finally manifesting, and having a international program believing in my dream too, was the best day of my life. Hive, a global leadership program dedicated to working to create a better world and solve humanities greatest challenges selected me out of thousands of applicants to attend their global leadership program at Harvard University. This is a three-day immersive leadership training event designed to create an action plan on turning my dream into a reality.

For those of you that are reading this, thank you so much for your investing your time today by finding out more about this wonderful opportunity.

My dream is to create a global system that responds to the orphan dilemma. I would first start by creating my dream non-profit called International Orphans United (IOU),  that researches, evaluates, and implements various successful global programs addressing the challenges facing orphans. We would filter the best ideas to develop a template plan that governments can implement independent of the socioeconomic status of the country. Many countries have excellent strategies that respond to the orphan crises, and IOU would create a global model that each individual country can look to for answers and solutions.

Since my childhood I have always been passionate about helping children. It stems from my mother running a daycare center where she accepted kids from all walks of life, regardless of their parents' income. Through traveling and having this desire to advocate on behalf of youth that cannot stand up for themselves, I realized what made me most happy - traveling and helping orphans. And now, my dream of combining the two has finally arrived.

For the past 10 years I’ve been determined to work on this dream, which included being a member of the Santa Barbara Guardian Scholars Club at Santa Barbara City College; a club designed to help former foster youth transition into college by providing them a warm family-like environment. I’ve also served as an Adult Supporter for California Youth Connection, which is an organization that works with policy makers, judges, and lawyers to implement laws that better the foster care system through legislative and policy change. Also, at my past job with United Way of Santa Barbara, I interacted with the community by creating necessities drives for foster youth,  organizing educational events for underprivileged children, and leading multiple fundraising campaigns, such as generating over $10,000 in my first month to help low-income families.

And with the help of my travel business, Travel with Anaiya, and the adventure travel book El Viajero that I write for, I have been able to  visit orphanages to study and find connections, patterns, and potential model strategies that can be implemented in underdeveloped countries.  Now that Hive has accepted me, IOU will become a reality where we can utilize already working methods and enact them abroad. My purpose is to leave a positive lasting impact in the lives of orphans worldwide.

The only challenge is that I need your help to get there. Due to an upcoming surgery scheduled on February 16, 2016 I will not have the means to attend such a life-changing opportunity. Over the next two weeks I need to raise $1,800.00 to cover the cost of the tuition, air, and hotel. Anything raised over that amount will go directly to CRY India, a nonprofit design to help the kids in the slums of India get a proper education and realize their full potential. It is not often that your true passion in life manifests into a reality.

Thank you very much for reading and let’s get Anaiya to Hive!
