The Story

Generations collide! Lost in a time and place not her own, and thrown into the middle of a conflict that shouldn’t involve her, Lieutenant Sofia Karras just wants to go home. But is home still waiting?

Why support us?

Honestly? You probably have far better things to be spending your money on, and let's face it, there are a ton of similar projects out there asking for money.

Putting that aside though, while this may be our first crowdfunder, it isn't our first film. We've been making fanfilms for well over a decade, we've even gotten moderately competent (disclaimer; that word might not mean what I think it means). We're not making big budget, glossy, professional films, but we are trying to tell fun, entertaining stories set in the Star Trek universe. And I think this new story is no exception.

So why do we need your help now? The simple fact is, these things are expensive. I think we've done a pretty good job of getting the most out of our shoestring budgets and the kindness of friends so far. But we'd like to do better.

Echoes will require a lot of challenging exterior shooting, some new costuming, and location hire. Food, transport, expendables, these are all things that add up quickly and drain what little budget we have. We're not looking for people to cover all our costs, but even a small donation would be of immense help in stretching our resources out, and ensuring we can produce as professional and polished a film as possible. 

So should you support us? Only you can answer that question. But if you do, you can be certain you'll receive our gratitude and a (hopefully) entertaining film.

So what exactly are we asking for?

In short:

• Travel expenses. 
• Room hire.
• Food. Actors and crew can get a little grumpy if you don’t feed them. We don’t want that.
• Props and costumes. Most of this is in place already, but we still have to provide wardrobe and props for our antagonists, the Venkari Solidarity. We don't anticipate these being expensive, but we will need to purchase materials for them.
• Make up. We don't anticipate any complex make up, but the cost of supplies even for the most basic makeup quickly piles up.
• Associated consumables (such as batteries).
• Post-production expenses.

Risks & Challenges

At present, we're aiming to have the film completed by April of 2021, but it's always possible that various roadblocks could crop up to delay that. However, we are determined to produce and complete this film and I think our track record to date shows that we are likely to keep that promise. Since 2003 we have produced a dozen films ranging from 5 minutes to 47 in length (with two more coming this year). While these films are certainly amateur in presentation, they also demonstrate continual evidence of our growth as filmmakers and storytellers, and we're confident Echoes will continue that trend.
