Hello Everyone! :-)

I'd like to tell you a little bit about me and MY STORY:

My name is Jeannine Friedrich and I come from Switzerland (Yes, Swiss Chocolate is indeed the best!). Ever since I was 5 years old I started doing Rhythmic Gymnastics. You've probably seen it on TV at the Olympics. For those who don’t know what sport it is, it’s that thing with the ribbon (among other apparatus) where the gymnasts are very flexible and do tricks on a white carpet bordered with a red line. This is where people normally go „Aah, this!“ – exactly. ;)

I got into the squad team about 2 years later and finally also into the Junior National Team, training up to 30 hours a week and even more and doing lots of competitions. In my last year doing Rhythmic Gymnastics I competed at various international competitions with a group of 4 other girls and eventually also at the European Championships in 2007 https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=EaGyYGxskrk. That was when I just turned 13.

After the European Championships I quit. I wanted to start doing something else. And this was when I began to dance and to play the piano.

It will sound a bit cheesy now but by watching "High School Musical" and especially the "Making-Of" and "Behind-the-Scene Rehearsals" I realised for the first time that this is something that one can actually do as work. So this was when the desire and dream of becoming a Performing Artist had awoken in me.

Everyone I told about my new dream though just had that look on his or her face saying: "Really? I don't think you're being realistic. I don't really believe you'll be able to do that. And what are you going to do if you won't make it? And you know that it will be very hard, right? And you won't make a lot of money and and and..." - As if I haven't spent time to think about all of this before and suddenly just had this crazy idea coming to my mind to be an artist.

No, I mean to do what I say. And I just knew that this is what I wanted to do.

Expressing oneself through movement, lyrics, music, dialogue and art and therefore telling stories and sharing your views that make people cope with their situations, make them feel better and not alone and especially inspire them to become the persons they always dreamed to be and to change their lives and those of others for the better. This is what I want to achieve.

Art has done so for me. It helped me through hard times and made me believe that I can achieve everything I set my mind to. It is a new passion I discovered after Rhythmic Gymnastics.

So now, I just have to try.

I quit sport already and experiencing times of regret for not knowing how much further I could have gone and how successful I could have been, not having "that special thing" anymore is something I know I never want to feel again. Maybe you have experienced something like this in your life as well and so you might understand how it feels like. This is why I decide and choose to try to see where I can go so that I will never have to ask myself: “What would have been if I tried? Who would I be now? Would I be happier?”

To all those people that didn't believe I can do it, I want to feel the approval and pride in the moment when I tell them: "Oh, by the way, I'm going to New York to do my Performing Arts Training.” – Told you!

Okay, maybe not exactly like this.

But I might even inspire them to believe in their own dreams no matter how unrealistic they might seem first and making them see that it is possible if you only want it hard enough and believe in it. I did. And so can you.

→ Here's an inspiring film-quote and advice to everyone: “Don't ever let somebody tell you… You can’t do something. You got a dream… You gotta protect it. People can’t do somethin’ themselves, they wanna tell you you can’t do it. If you want somethin’, go get it. Period.“ (– From the film "Pursuit of Happiness". Beautiful film. I can recommend it to everyone.)

This is exactly what I am trying to fulfil myself right now. I did not let myself down and give up on my dream just because someone or many people told me I won’t make it. How does this person know? This person isn’t me. I know who I am and what I am capable of doing. Almost for 8 years now, I have waited for that moment of going to America and train in an academy to become reality. I have been holding on to it and all this still feels like a dream but it is actually getting more real every single day. I am so excited for it to finally become my reality!

And you could be part of making this dream come true!

I feel quite weird asking for help or rather asking for your money but for me it means so much more than just ‘receiving money’. It would be my education and training to become what I want and for so long have dreamed to be. It is the realisation of my dream. That is invaluable and would mean the world to me.

THE SCHOOL - AMDA www.amda.edu :

I have applied to the ‘American Musical and Dramatic Academy’ in July 2014 to start this end of JUNE 2015 with my Audition Video: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=cFsnAZail6U including a Song, Monologue and Dance Solo. I haven't had training in singing and acting before. I've only danced temporarily for half a year and saving the other half to pay for the next half-year-subsciption. Still I managed to get accepted to the Integrated Musical Theater 2-Year Conservatory Program and even achieved to get a scholarship as well. Something I am quite proud of.

AMDA belongs to one of the best Performing Arts Schools in New York City and was build with the idea to create a school run by professional performers, for performers. "AMDA provides rigorous, performance-based training and an industry-focused education experience. Its educational philosophy is based on close collegial interaction between instructors and students — in class, in production and through active mentorship. AMDA serves as both school and stage, where students are given the support and opportunity to define their own personal objectives and to develop and refine their own distinctive artistic voices. The school strives to create an environment for students to develop the skills, confidence, imagination, and power to contribute to their community as artists, entrepreneurs, visionaries, lifelong learners, and conscientious citizens of the world. Above all, AMDA wants to teach students that commitment and passion are the hallmarks of a successful and joyous career."

This school is where I can see myself fully growing as an artist and person and getting exactly the right training to be perfectly prepared for the Arts Business. It is the first step to take towards my career.

MY CURRENT SITUATION:

My financial situation now is that I still need about 4'000 US Dollar for my ENTIRE TRAINING. I have been asking private foundations in Switzerland to support me financially and have received three positive answers. From around $48'000 per academic year (Tuition cost + Housing and Living Expenses) I am now down to those $4'000 that I still need in order to start this end of June 2015. I am currently working to put money aside for it and as you can see also starting this Crowdfund to support me additionally.

The financial situation in my family is quite difficult. My parents divorced right after I quit Rhythmic Gymnastics when I turned 13. Money has always been an issue ever since. I have an older brother as well who is doing his music education in Zurich and needs financial support too. We both currently live with our mother. My parents will contribute to my educational expenses as well as to my brother’s but they are not able to pay more than 13’000 US Dollar for my entire education. My mother is from Brazil and is working in the Security Check Control at Zurich Airport. This job doesn’t bring her a fixed monthly salary but is rather based on the hours she works. Meaning, that every month she may have a different salary, which basically just covers our expenses at home for the three of us. My father is a Primary Teacher but he has a difficult financial situation as he as gotten himself into debts that he needs to pay back now. He is able to contribute some money as I stated but this is also very depending on the situation with his debtees and the possibility of them prosecuting him.

WHAT YOU CAN DO:

Any kind of support from your side is a huge help for me to go to New York this end of June 2015 to do my education.

I don’t want you to feel pressure to donate a lot of money or even something. You are already helping by just telling your family and friends about me and maybe even spreading the word on social media (Facebook, Twitter, Email etc.) with one simple click.

You might even just want to write an email to me with kind and supporting words that will motivate me to keep going and believe that I am on the right track. ^_^

If you decide to donate something though, really any amount even 1 Dollar will bring me closer to my dream. Any donation towards those 4’000 Dollar will help me immensely!!

If you think pursuing your dreams is what you should do in life, if you love performing arts, music, dance, film, theater, if you know how it is to be so close to get something you want but you just don't have enough funds for it, if you know me and know how much this means to me or if you don't but think I am a nice person and deserves that chance or for any other reason - then please support me to go to New York! It would mean the world to me and it would definitely be the best birthday present I've ever received (1st of July)! ;-)

Thank you very much, honestly.

If you have any questions about me or the school or anything else, feel free to ask away!

I am very thankful for all the support!

Thank you so much everyone!

Jeannine
