Short Summary

Traumamomma.org will be a comprehensive directory of mental health and therapeutic services that helps you find the right services that fit your needs. Furthermore, traumamomma.org allows a place to:

~ EDUCATE YOURSELF: by finding services in your area, that are sorted by types of therapy and the services they provide,

~ INFORM OTHERS: you can write anonymous testimonials  of services you have received,

~ EMPOWER: professionals and organizations can advertise ways to support their services such as leave information on where and how to donate, fundraising events plus professionals and organizations learn ways to improve services.

The objective of traumamomma.org is that by sharing your counseling experience, more individuals would know what they might expect from counseling and more individuals can find the right resources to match their needs.

-----------------------------

The reasons why I started traumamomma.org are many:

I have been studying psychology for six years and I have years of experience in trauma counseling. I did my masters thesis on the help-seeking behaviors among individuals who experience trauma. Many of the studies I have read explain that individuals do not seek or follow through with counseling because there is so much stigma surrounding counseling, they do not know what to expect or they do not know where to get help. How can I help solve this problem? Following graduation, I began thinking of ways for individuals to feel encouraged or motivated to seek counseling. The solution I came up with is a website where clients can leave anonymous testimonials for counseling services to help encourage others to seek counseling. The anonymous feedback will help individuals find the appropriate help and provide understanding of what the outcome may be. If a client leaves negative feedback, they can choose to contact the professional or organization to leave more constructive criticism and it would be up to the professional or organization to improve their service to their clients.

As an advocate for healthy living, I feel that it is important for us as a society to address some of our pressing mental health issues. In my opinion, one issue is how we deal with traumatic events. For example, with our continued exposure to violence in the media (video games, TV shows, ect.) there is an increase in violence in all ages- it is showing up in our schools and the neighborhoods we grow up in. If we were to take the issues we deal with in trauma and address them in a healthy way; empower the existing counseling services and encourage the help brought about through counseling, we can become a healthier society to decrease the on-going cycle of trauma related issues such as Post-traumatic stress disorder, violence, sexual assault/rape, domestic violence, substance abuse and stress. But trauma counseling is only a portion of the mental health issues traumamomma.org aims to address. If we were to address our pressing mental health issues, we will be able to address the corresponding issues such as obesity, violence, depression, suicide and other such issues in our society.

If you believe in this cause and you would like to  contribute, the money will go directly to the creation and operation of traumamomma.org. I have already contributed my own money to the cause and the website has at least three more months of construction and the construction of a mobile-friendly site.

What We Need & What You Get

The group of website designers I have been working with projected at least three months of website designing to launch the website in 2015.  If I receive more contributions, I will be able to complete the website and tighten the websites' functionality.

No matter how much you contribute, I will place your name on the contributors page plus any message you would like to leave (encouragement or motivation for traumamomma.org users). For the top levels of contributions, I will also send a candy gift package with a thank you note.

The Impact

This is a website similar to review websites like Yelp.com, traumamomma.org focuses on mental health and therapeutic services. It is a website like no other because it helps individuals share their experiences anonymously and helps others make informed decisions.

This website has the ability to help many individuals. Good news travels and when more people are aware of the positive impact counseling services have done for others, the more people would want to improve their lives and find the counseling that they need. Many counseling services has already helped those who have bravely faced their trauma and overcame. By sharing healing stories, the potential of helping more is potent and worth contributing to.

Other Ways You Can Help

If you would like more information on the changes to the website, feel free to message me and I would be happy to let you know. At the launch of the website, I would love your support- become a fan on Facebook, follow on Twitter, leave a testimonial, add to the directory or let others know about this project.

Every little bit of good karma can go a long way.
