Help Susan Recover from Chronic Fatigue Syndrome
Susan Crane Sundell has worked as a consultant to Social Workers in the New York State foster care system, has two Master’s Degrees and has taught English literature in a culturally diverse inner city public school system. She is an advocate for retired race horses and retired greyhounds. Her professional career was destroyed by chronic, debilitating illness due to exposure to toxic mold.
Susan was exposed to black mold when she rented a room from a friend. She needed a place to stay temporarily while looking for work. The room that she rented included a bathroom built into the bedroom that had inadequate ventilation and dry wall instead of tile! The bedroom was adjacent to another bathroom with a leaking toilet. Water was dripping in the basement from a leak in the floor above. This damp environment resulted in mold growth throughout the house. For several months the walls surrounding the shower in the bedroom were exposed while awaiting repairs.
Susan has been ill since February 2012. The black mold exposed her to the tricothecene mycotoxin, a neurotoxin that acts as an acetylcholine inhibitor. Her symptoms started with musculoskeletal pain, particularly in the back and legs. She gained weight in the abdominal area although she spent hours at the gym nearly every day. Her symptoms worsened to an inability to taste food, an inability to sleep, anxiety, shaking, and neuropathy in the face, mouth and the left side of the head. She has difficulty walking and has cognitive impairment. The toxins wreaked havoc with her endocrine system and hypothalamus. Leaving the moldy environment did not result in improvement in her condition as she is unable to detox without medical intervention. With the infection left untreated she is now experiencing symptoms indicative of auto immune disease.
After many consultations with different mainstream medical specialists Susan consulted an environmental doctor who advised her that she had been exposed to a toxin and recommended a test to determine the level of exposure. The test results confirmed the exposure to tricothecenes.
Viable treatment options are limited to alternative therapies provided by a few specialists and clinics with expertise in treatment of mold sickness and cost thousands of dollars in out of pocket expenses. Susan has exhausted all of her available funds to seek treatment. She is disabled and is dependent on public assistance. She has no family and relies on the support of a few friends. Susan’s goal is to raise $25,000 for treatment by one of three different mold treatment specialists in the U.S. Please help Susan get back to the happy, athletic, gregarious and giving person she once was! Thank you!
