Help Take Safe Routes to the Next Level
"Bicycle bells ringing, footsteps pattering down the sidewalk, kids exclaiming, “my walk to school was amazing today!” - these are just a few sounds heard at schools that are part of Alameda County Safe Routes to Schools. You can help us share our work and bring back new ideas by making a donation to send six staff to the National Safe Routes to Schools Conference in Columbus, Ohio this April. We still need to raise $2,200 from this Generosity campaign to cover the costs."
Our ten dedicated staff work with over 160 schools to inspire youth to get to school safely by walking, rolling or using alternative forms of transportation- ultimately reducing greenhouse gas emissions and making our communities healthier for all.
The impact Alameda County Safe Routes to Schools has in our schools can be felt in many ways. In just the last two years, we have reduced greenhouse gas emissions by 9% in participating schools! We’ve engaged thousands of students, teachers, and parents in our vibrant and growing program.
Now we’re ready to take our program to the next level by sharing all that we’ve learned with activists and leaders around the United States, and to bring back a wealth of expertise from other successful programs to share in our community. We are thrilled that we've been invited to present our inspiring stories and lesson on several panels at the National Safe Routes to Schools Conference, taking place April 5 – 7 in Columbus, Ohio. We've raised most of the funds we need from a benefit concert last year and other program revenues. But we can't get all the way there unless we can raise $2,200 from this Generosity campaign to cover conference expenses for key staff to attend. Can you help by making a donation today?"
The three panels we were selected to present on at the conference are:
Unleashing Youth Voices: Creating successful Safe Routes Programming with Teens at the Helm
Language Arts in Motion: Rap, Poetry, and Oral History get families moving (about our innovative middle school work)
Rebranding & Reframing SRTS: toward more effective strategies
The Alameda County Safe Routes to Schools program was initiated by TransForm, a non-profit dedicated to making California's communities more healthy, sustainable, and fair through great transportation choices and affordable homes near transit; and has been key in the program's implementation for the past eight years. Supporters of this campaign will receive updates on TransForm's work, including Safe Routes to Schools, via email and mail; you may opt out at any time.
