Accepted to the National Black Theater Festival!

August 7th and 8th, 2015

Dear supporters, we want to thank you for following this project, which has been a true "labor of love!"

  • If you didn't know already, The Clothesline Muse collaborators are also family Maya Freelon Asante, who created the set design is Kariamu Welsh’s daughter-in-law; Kariamu is the choreographer and Nnenna Freelon who plays the lead role as Grandma Blu, is Maya's mother. Nnenna also created the original music for the production. All three are producers and writers.
  • We are thrilled with the honor of performing The Clothesline Muse, at the National Black Theater Festival, but we need your help to get there!
  • We need to raise $15,000.00

What will $15,000.00 do?

  • Raising $15,000.00 will help us bring the revamped production and our entire cast and crew to the NBTF in Winston Salem, NC. The cast and crew are based in Durham, NC, Philly and New York.
  • We also plan to create exciting new costumes!
  • New projections, new music and dance
  • WE want to bring our best to this NATIONAL Festival
  • We need to pay for studio time, rehearsals and technical consultations
  • Hotel and travel alone has maxed out our bank account, so we really do need your help!
  • We have some fun perks lined up for your support!
  • Every penny will go to making this the best Clothesline Muse performance yet!
  • Consider donating in honor of your grandmother, or great-grandmother

Intergenerational Dialog

The impact of sharing TCM with the world is huge! For a new production company to be included in The National Black Theater Festival  is almost unheard of. TCM is an evening of stories- intergenerational stories we need to hear, especially today when the noise of pop-culture threatens to drown out the voices of the past. We need safe spaced to talk about things that are hard like...

  • Race, class and gender
  • Sacrifices made by our ancestors
  • How to "connect" with today's youth

TCM does this through song, dance and imagery. Let us listen, truly listen to each others stories, help us hang them all on the line!

Please help us spread the word!

Thanks again for your support!
