Hi, My name is Reynald I'm a freelance video editor and graphic designer based in Davao City, Philippines. My world definitely revolves just around a corner, facing a computer monitor almost 24/7. But I double as a volunteer (a videographer, that is) for a foundation helping children in my remaining hours of free time.
November 8, 2013.
Super Typhoon Haiyan - One of the most
powerful storms ever recorded on the planet, brought a severe destruction to the
central islands of the Philippines. Around 10,000
people are feared dead in one city alone, while hundreds
of thousands were displaced, and billions
worth of properties were smashed down.
I was shocked when I heard the news. Help is needed tremendously so I have to leave my office space for a week to be a full-time volunteer for the Children's Joy Foundation as it continues
its massive Relief Operations and Medical Services in Tacloban City and other
areas in Central Visayas.
The first stop of the team is Cebu City. Together with my co-volunteers for the Children's Joy Foundation who are based in Cebu, we toured the northern areas mostly hit by the disaster. It was nerve-wracking to saw the impact made by the typhoon. Houses were flattened, concrete walls were fallen, big trees were uprooted and the people--scavenging everywhere looking for something to eat and drink. Scenes of devastation are everywhere, crying for help. The most vulnerable are children. And whenever I saw a child who is helpless, I can't help but make a move to help in anyway I can. Placards with hand-written notes really catch my attention, most of them says, "HINABANG TAWN!!!, it was a Visayan for Help, Please! which urged me in making this campaign to raise awareness that URGENT help is badly needed in this part of the world. As a human being, I believe, that helping others should be a way of life. Wether or not, it's your family, your relative or a total stranger...
Help is pouring in now for the people here in Visayas from different worldwide organisations but help is not enough. There are still a lot in need of clean water, food, clothes, medicines, and rice. My goal is to raise at least $3,000 for the survivors of Typhoon Haiyan. All proceeds from this campaign will go directly towards the
Relief Operations and Medical Services of the Children's Joy Foundation here in the Visayas. The money that I will raised in this campaign will be used to buy additional canned goods, bottled waters, rice, medicine, and personal hygiene needs like soaps, napkins, tissue, among others. We are currently distributing relief in Northern Cebu. The relief goods from this campaign will be distributed in Leyte in November 30, 2013 in the areas where Typhoon Haiyan focused its havoc.
The Pail of Hope
The Relief Goods given by the Children's Joy Foundation, come in pails. Inside are at least 5 kilos of rice, noodles, packs of Milo, coffee, canned goods, noodles, biscuits, soap, and bottled waters.
Any help will definitely count, there's no small or big amount to those who have the heart to help. It's the thought that counts. Imagine, if you will give just $1, it can already save a life from dehydration or starvation, How much more if it's more than a looney? If I can't reach my goal in this campaign, I will still give the money to be used to buy goods for the Typhoon survivors here in my country. There are so much more in dire need of help.
If in an instance that you can't donate, it will be a big help if you can spread this thing out to other people to raise awareness that help is urgent for the typhoon victims. It's in the news everywhere. People knew about it but other still don't know where they will go to pitch in.
An update will always be posted here to keep track from day to day on what's going on with the Relief Operation in the Visayas. My email ad is choytapel@gmail.com if you have still questions on how you can help.
