What Hero Shop Is
Hero Shop is a highly-curated fashion and lifestyle concept store in San Francisco founded by me, Emily Holt, a former Vogue editor and Bay Area native. Opening in the Tenderloin in 2016, the store will showcase an exciting and accessible mix of clothing, accessories, home items, gifts, and tech, while championing and supporting one of the city’s most dynamic neighborhoods. In short, it will be a "must see" destination.
Why I’m Opening It

Every major city in the country has a unique store that defines its particular style and projects it onto the global scene: Ikram in Chicago, Capitol in Charlotte, The Webster in Miami, Totokaelo in Seattle, and the list goes on. San Francisco doesn't have a store like this, and I'm in a special position to do something about it.
As a former editor at Vogue, Women's Wear Daily and W magazine, I have a New York City, high fashion background. As a native of the Bay Area, I speak California. Which is to say that I understand what products work for this lifestyle and I know how to make a store exciting for national and international press.
I also simply love San Francisco, and while I'm living here, there needs to be a store like this where I can shop, discover, and meet people. So I’m building it—with your help.
Assortment, Services, and Programming
Hero Shop will focus on established designer brands and West Coast labels. This will give the store a distinctly California vibe and help promote local talent. A wide range of prices—from $20 to $5,000—means that everyone can participate, from the fashion conscious to the fashion curious.
An expert team of Hero Shop stylists will be available for wardrobe curation, personal shopping, and personal styling. Friendly staff will cater to customers' busy lives with flexible, personal service.
Hero Shop events will build community within and around the store. Designer dinners, book parties, speaker series, and movie nights are all in the works! Also, conversations with organizations like Raphael House and 826 Valencia have already begun to explore how Hero Shop can support the important work they do.
Indiegogo Campaign
I'm raising $100,000 to cover the build out of our location at 982 Post Street. Permits, contractors, inspectors, compliancy requirements, lighting, dressing rooms, display fixtures and cosmetic improvements are all costs we'll be incurring over the next 5-6 months.
I know it's a busy time of year, and I'm grateful for all contributions. Even $5 helps!
The Impact
Hero Shop is my vote of confidence in San Francisco style and the Tenderloin neighborhood. My hope is that the store’s success inspires more people to open diverse businesses that speak to artistic communities, bring distinct style to the city, and pay attention to San Francisco’s vibrant neighborhoods.
