Keepers of the Art Needs Your Help!
For the past 8 years we’ve been able to offer programming supported by grants from Akron area foundations. With the support of those grants we have been able to showcase Hip-Hop culture’s ability to entertain, educate, and inspire through concerts, lectures, and workshops.
We decided to start this crowdfunding campaign after winning the Knight Foundation’s Knight Arts Challenge. A stipulation of winning the award is raising matching funds.
After the success of De La Soul’s crowdfunding campaign which led to the production of their Grammy-nominated album we saw the potential of crowdfunding to help produce Hip-Hop inspired projects.
We’re excited about the opportunity to get our audience directly involved in this project. From helping select artists to creating the video and the music used in our campaign video we wanted our audience to have some skin in the game.

How you can help!
Every contribution helps! We need to raise $55,800 in matching funds to claim the Knight Arts Challenge Award we were recently awarded.
The funding raised from this crowdfunding campaign will be used to not only claim the Knight Arts Challenge grant but to book acts and facilitate the lectures and workshops associated with the Hip-Hop Preservation Project this September.
Artists such as Nas, Common, Public Enemy, LL Cool J, De La Soul, Busta Rhymes, J Cole, Nick Grant, and Chance The Rapper are on the short list of artists that we would like to bring to Akron, OH this September with your support.
Throughout the campaign there will be a variety of perks available to award you for your donations.
Why do we need $55,800?
We need $55,800 to use as the matching funds required to claim the Knight Foundation’s Knight Arts Challenge grant we were awarded to produce the Hip-Hop Preservation Project.
We intend to use the funds raised to produce the lecture associated with the Hip-Hop Preservation Project.
We also intend to use the funds raised to produce the workshops associated with the Hip-Hop Preservation Project.
In addition to using the funds to cover the costs of producing the lecture and workshops we also intend to use the funds raised to help produce the B-Boy competition associated with the Hip-Hop Preservation Project.
Finally, we intend to use the funds raised to cover the performance fees for the headline act of the Hip-Hop Preservation Project Concert.
