What is Hip Hop:
![]()
Hip-Hop is a Culture that was founded in the South Bronx, New York City. It was a way for youth at the time to overcome social-economical hardships in America. During this period in the early 1970's especially in the ghetto's of America the youth experienced severe program cuts to school budgets and community programs. This was across the board from Sports, The Arts, Music, and After-school program funding that was drastically cut from the curriculum. The Youth with nothing else to do to enrich their quality of life, and to escape gang life, they created something from nothing. 'Hip Hop'! The parties of the time unified youth from all walks of life. Throughout the 1970's Hip-Hop thrived in local parks, block parties, and community centers. By the end of the 1970's Hip-Hop MC's rhymes were put on Records and heard on National Radio Stations in heavy rotation. The Hip Hop Music Industry was born! As the 1980's rolled in Hip Hop Music had experienced great success from its early releases and started traveling throughout the NYC, the Tri-State Area, and throughout the United States, and the World. Today Hip Hop Music & Culture has blossomed from those humble beginnings into a Multi-Billion dollar Hip Hop Industry that encompasses everything from Music, Film, Sports, Television, Fashion, Theater, Education, Entrepreneurship, Wall Street and Corporate America. The Fans, Enthusiasts, Consumers, and Trendsetters of Hip Hop Music & Culture cross all Ethnic, Gender, Educational, Political, Geographical, and Social-Economic barriers. Hip Hop Artists and Celebrities have been used to Market and Advertise everything from Films, Phones, Fashion, Electronics, Food, and Fragrances. The Fans, and Influencers stretch from the USA to Canada, The Caribbean, Japan, Europe, Africa, China, South America, Central America, Australia, East Asia, and the Middle East. It is the lyrical heart and voice of a new generation celebrating over 40 years with The Building of The Hip Hop Hall of Fame + Museum in New York City its Birthplace!
