***If you want your contribution to be tax deductible, please donate via the 'Back It' button above or by visiting www.asap-co.com.au/taxdeductibledonation instead of purchasing a package***
We have Registered Charity DGR Type 1 status and will provide tax receipts for all donations, however can not offer this to those who purchase packages due to ATO regulations. You can find out about tax deductible Corporate Sponsorship on our website (see Sponsorship Opportunities) or can donate without receiving a perk now by using the 'Back It' button above. We will then email you a tax receipt and Certificate of Thanks.

Readers please note: Our goal is now $10,000 - not $25,000 (unfortunately can not be changed on indiegogo).
We have managed to greatly reduce costs and secure in-kind donations. We also have secured $5000 through a successful grant thanks to the National Lottery Office, leaving us with a fundraising goal of $10,000.

Homelessness in Australia

Homelessness is on the rise in Australia. You may wonder how one becomes homeless. During our many conversations with people sleeping rough, we have learned that it is often through no fault of their own. The reasons behind a person becoming homeless vary from person to person.

Many do have one thing in common, however: they are stuck inside a vicious cycle. They can't gain employment because they don't have an address - yet they can't afford a home without the opportunity of employment. Add to this a lack of transport, support and clean attire and it's easy to see just how difficult breaking out of homelessness can be without assistance.

What if there was a way that people who are homeless could simultaneously be offered employment and accommodation, with the added gifts of first class training and upskilling and holistic support. Just imagine how this could turn a persons life around and give them a chance to get back on their feet again. Meet The ASAP Project...

Our plan

Australian Street Aid Project (ASAP) will establish an Op Shop with a modern Cafeteria in Mackay, Queensland.

Within this Op Shop/Cafe, we will provide on-the-job training to participants of 'The ASAP Program'- an intensive program that will focus on employing, training, accommodating and supporting people who are experiencing homelessness (read more below).

Duties of our program participants will include:

- Collecting, cleaning and displaying donated Op Shop items

- Serving fresh, quality items in the cafeteria

- Providing excellent customer service to our customers

The Op Shop will be modern, clean and as affordable as possible to cater to bargain hunters and people who are in need of low cost items.

100% of proceeds will be used to grow and sustain the program. Our board of directors do not receive any financial benefits.

Program Details

This six month program is designed to address four main barriers experienced by people who are homeless; employment, accommodation, support and education in order to successfully transition them into regular employment and accommodation. See below for further details.

1. Employment
Based only upon their motivation to exit the cycle of homelessness, we will employ four people who are experiencing homelessness per six month program. These people will work under the direct supervision of an experienced manager and will receive on-the-job training to serve food and drinks to the general public from the cafeteria and to sell items to customers in the Op Shop. The establishment will be capable of providing the total of five employees (including manager) with 25+ hours of work per week at industry hospitality rates.

2. Accommodation
Understanding that maintaining employment is near impossible without stable accommodation, we will offer our employees the opportunity to rent accommodation that is leased through ASAP, on the condition that rent is taken from their wages on a weekly basis. We believe that charging rent is an essential part of promoting social responsibility and gives employees a better standpoint to enter regular accommodation following graduation of the program. Employees will be expected to maintain the property to adequate standards and undertake regular inspections.
*No rent will be charged for the initial four weeks of employment.

3. Support
The needs of people who are experiencing homelessness are often complex and intertwined. Each employee will be individually case-assessed to determine the most appropriate support services, however it will be a mandatory requirement that all employees attend:
- weekly scheduled counselling sessions and group therapy
- financial planning appointments to set budgets and prepare for regular life following the program
Each employee will also have access to resume writing services and will be given classes on interview etiquette from month four of the program as this is when they will begin to transitioning into regular employment and accommodation and successfully graduate the program.

4. Education
Employees will attend food hygiene and safety training prior to commencing in the cafeteria. They will also receive support and training in customer service excellence, money handling, conflict management and more. Our experienced manager will supervise and oversee employees at all times to ensure that food safety and customer satisfaction remains a top priority. Weekly progress reviews will be done in order to commend employees on their achievements and discuss any areas for improvement.

Will this work?

ASAP directors have worked with people who are experiencing homelessness for many years, and we understand that this process will have its challenges, but we are committed to making this happen and helping those who truly want the opportunity to create change in their own lives.

Many of these people have never had anyone who believed in them, and we believe that with this, people can truly shine.ASAP directors have worked with people who are experiencing homelessness for many years, and we understand that this process will have its challenges due to the complexity of homelessness, but we are committed to making this work and helping those who truly want the opportunity to create change in their own lives.

We believe that our homeless friends deserve a solution - not just a band aid fix. Many of these people have never had anyone who believed in them, and we know that with a sense of purpose, people can truly thrive.

Let's make this happen!

In order to make this project a success, we NEED your support. Whether it be financial support or simply sharing our campaign on social media, please help us to make this happen in whatever way you can afford to.

We have estimated that we require $15,000 AUD to establish this Op Shop/Cafeteria.
We have already been awarded a generous grant of $5000 from The Lottery Office and we are working with establishing corporate sponsorship relationships. ASAP is also in the process of applying for several grants, however this is a long process.

We are asking that dig deep to help us get the ball rolling.
Anything you give to this project will make a difference.
No amount is too small.
No share will go unnoticed.

ALL contributors will receive regular updates and exclusive access to progress interviews from the program participants along with all perks listed on our Indiegogo page.

Remember, in order for your support to be tax deductible you hit 'Back It' - not select a perk.

Let's tackle homelessness in Australia head on - together.

From the bottom of our hearts - thank you!
