Now shipping!!
Update 5/29/2016
We're working through the final stages of the injection molds, while everything else is waiting and ready to go. Speaking with our vendor a few days ago, we expect to start testing the molds in a couple weeks. Barring any major issues, we should have parts mid June and our expectation is that product will begin shipping soon after that. Thanks for your support and patience while we work through the details. Almost there!!
Update 4/14/2016
Quick update on our progress. But first, thanks to everyone for their contribution in pre-orders and in so many other ways! We are getting very close and anticipate shipping pre-orders sometime between mid-May and early June. It was our hope that we could begin shipping in early May, but the last thing we are working through is the injection mold being manufactured and tuned. We met with our vendor yesterday and so this is the very latest in terms of timing. The good news is everything else is ready to go!
Our Indiegogo campaign will remain open to pre-orders until we launch officially and it is our goal to continue building momentum in the meantime. Thank you!

Hoop Compost
Frustrated with the traditional method of compost collection like using a counter-top bin, we knew there must be a better way. Hoop replaces the traditional compost bin and fits the trash can you already have. It is either out of sight entirely or least not on your counter, and helps improve cleanliness and reduces odor associated with compost collection.
Did you know 37 million tons of food waste was generated in the US alone in 2013. Guess how much was recycled... 5%. We can do better than that, but it has to be much easier. Hoop was conceived and developed within our own home and shaped by the feedback of our friends and family. Our mission is to increase food waste recovery by making the process much easier!
We hope you join us! Sincerely,
Nick & Katie
What We Need & What You Get
Our goal is to achieve 500 or more pre-orders. Pre-orders validate demand and the proceeds help cover some initial manufacturing costs. The most significant cost is associated with the tooling required to produce the product at volume and at reasonable pricing. If we reach our goal, here is what will happen:
1. Buy Tooling: We estimate tooling will take 6-8 weeks to produce. In this case, tooling refers to plastic injection molds that can be used to produce the parts of a Hoop at high volume.
2. Develop Packaging: Initially, the packaging for Hoop will be minimal in order to avoid creating excess waste. However, packaging plays a critical role in ensuring the product reaches customers without damage and includes the proper instructions for use.
3. Produce & Assemble: Hoop is made of about 10 unique parts. We will place volume orders for each part and setup an assembly line. Assembly can be as expensive as the parts that make up the product and so our goal will be to streamline this process.
4. Ship: We expect to ship production version Hoops within 3 months of achieving our pre-order goals.
The Impact
Organic waste collection is a critical step towards sustainability. Since most organic waste ends up in landfills, diversion for use as compost not only reduces the amount of useless waste we generate, but also provides nutrient rich soil and helps reduce greenhouse emissions that would otherwise occur in landfills. For many people, the process of leaving rotting food on your counter-top like with traditional methods is quite challenging. And unfortunately, the easiest thing to do is nothing at all. We created Hoop as individuals who knew separating organic waste for compost was the right thing to do, but struggled with the traditional compost bin. We believe Hoop is an alternative and hope it will lead to a greater percentage of households joining the cause.
Fitting Hoop to Your Trash Can
We’ve designed Hoop to fit the vast majority of trash cans, but there are still some that won’t fit. The following graphic shows how the brackets of Hoop engage a trash can so you can check the fit of your existing trash can:
Other Ways You Can Help
Even if you are not able to support our campaign with a pre-order, spreading the word can still make a significant impact. We’ve found that there are many people who struggle with using a compost bin and who would otherwise separate for compost if there was an alternative. Please help us reach those people by sharing our campaign with your friends, family, coworkers, etc. The easiest way to share is by clicking the links provided above. Thanks very much for your support!
