Dogs at the Jerusalem JSPCA, a
desperately underfunded only partially enclosed shelter are freezing in the
snow since December 12 when Jerusalem was struck bythe
worst storm maybe ever in Jerusalem. (Click on this blue link to see photos of Jerusalem
blanketed in snow.) The electric wiring has been damaged, so there is no
heat. Also the roofing, tarps and other weather coverings in the yard have all
been destroyed. The yard, previously flooded by torrential rains, is now full
of snow and slushy mud. The shelter which could get by in ordinary weather with
the loving care of its devoted volunteers requires emergency assistance now to repair
and improve the shelter for this extraordinarily cold and snowy winter. The indoor area for small dogs, puppies and cats is tiny and
inadequate. Please donate now to help restore and improve the shelter and keep
the animals warm and dry.
My name is Rachel and I have volunteered
and donated for several Israeli animal welfare organizations as there are far
too many unwanted dogs and millions of stray cats. The Jerusalem JSPCA is a
wonderful no-kill shelter with roughly 300 animals (160 dogs, 20 puppies, and
200 cats) who need the most help as the Jerusalem animals suffer more from
cold. The terrible storms hitting Israel now first flooded the shelter and then
dumped feet of snow on Jerusalem and the winter has just started. Now, the big
dogs especially are freezing cold and wet. The .cats, puppies and small
dogs are shivering huddled together in the small indoor area. The shelter
sent out an emergency call for help on Facebook and even got an article
published in the paper but the Jerusalem SPCA manager told me just now the roof
blew off and they have no electricity. Please click on the Gallery
tab above to see many photos and videos of the shelter, its animals and devoted
volunteers in this terrible storm as well as in good weather.
Please consider a donation of $50 dollars or more, but even a
small amount of money will allow them to greatly improve the situation of the
animals there. If we got 600 donors to
donate $50 dollars we would reach our goal.
Emergency materials
needed and their costs by donation amount:
$10 will
help purchase a blanket . We need at least 900 blankets (allowing for washing)
$25 will
purchase a dog or cat bed. We need 300.
$50 will
help replace a tin over hang to keep dogs dry. We need at least 20.
$80 will purchase a heater for the puppies, small dog and cats rooms, and heat
lamps for the dog kennels. We need at least 100.
$100 will help
put up a rain or sun screens in the yard. We need at least 5.
$150 will
buy a dog house. We need at least 25.
$1000 we raise will be used to fix the leaking
enclosures and damaged roof.
$ 2000 will
purchase a generator so that we provide heat even when the electricity is down.
$5000 will
repair and upgrade the storm damaged electrical wiring in the shelter for heat
lamps.
Local volunteers are there caring for the animals even in the
worst weather. Please donate today to keep these sweet wonderful dogs and cats
warm and dry and help this campaign go viral by sharing this link with your
friends and family. Tell them you donated and how they can also help the
freezing cats and dogs of Israel by clicking, making a gift and then
sharing it themselves.
And if you live in Israel, please consider adopting one of these
wonderful dogs and cats. I plan to adopt a cat as soon as the roads are open
and we can drive to Jerusalem. Thank you!
