Summary
Hi there! I’m Christopher Black! I’m a filmmaker, born and raised in Los Angeles. My path to film was different than most as I attended Cal State Northridge and majored in Political Science with the hopes of working in government until realizing that I wanted to entertain. I switched gears and ever since, I’ve been producing and directing music videos and branded content for almost 10 years.
Filmmaking has given me the opportunity to travel and meet people from different parts of the world and has given me a voice to express my ideas and to explore my own creative passions. I've been incredibly fortunate to have created close relationships with friends and collaborators that continue to support and inspire one another. My interest as a filmmaker is to continue creating stories that speak to the human condition and present a perspective that illuminates the experiences of marginalized people.
In continuing with this process, I’m ready to direct my first short film!
- JIM is comedy about a black middle-school boy named Charles and the awkward moment he’s thrust into as the class reads a beloved, American classic. It’s important for me to tell this story because it promotes an ongoing dialogue between various racial groups regarding “otherness” and by creating a satire about race, it makes that, sometimes, bitter tasting conversation a little sweeter.
What We Need & What You Get
We’re asking for $15,000 to make this short come to life. I know it sounds like a lot, but $15k will go in the blink of an eye.
Our budget will go towards casting of actors, our location, insurance, equipment, and anything else that are specific to the production costs.

The Impact
In recent years there has been a steady change in demographics amongst those sitting in the Director’s chair. While some progress has been made, there’s still a long way to go. If you are someone who loves film and believes that diversity and representation are of great importance to, then your contribution is extremely valuable to this project.
Not only is it important to have more women and people of color behind the camera, it’s equally important to have a wide array of stories than can be told from different perspectives and experiences.
Risks & Challenges
With any production there’s always two risks involved:
1) An unforeseen catastrophic event that interrupts production.
2) Or the short is just no good.
The good news is that we’ll be working with an incredibly talented crew of professionals and actors and our pre-production process will be incredibly detailed and thorough in the hope that we can mitigate any existing hiccups.
