SHORT SUMMARY
In 2009, I lived in South Africa, seeing over 100 elephants roaming in the wild. Today I can't imagine a future without these magnificent creatures - a keystone species for the environment and an icon of Africa. But right now, every 15 minutes an elephant is killed for their ivory tusks. If nothing is done to stop the ivory trade, elephants will be extinct in Africa in 10 years.
Elephantopia is saving elephants and building community. This project is raising awareness about elephants' fight for survival against the ivory trade, affording people like YOU and ME the opportunity to DO SOMETHING about it.
Thanks for joining the herd - welcome to Elephantopia!
WHAT WE NEED & WHAT YOU GET
Breakdown of our costs to get Elephantopia running as an official nonprofit & sponsoring an orphaned elephant in Africa :
$200 for webdomain (two years)
$150 for an official logo
$200 for website redesign
$25 for TX paperwork to file for nonprofit
$400 for IRS paperwork to file for nonprofit
$200 for PO Box (two years)
$225 to begin care-taking of Kavala.
(Note: Who Is Kavala? Kavala is an orphaned elephant whose mother was killed by poachers in 2011. The GRI Elephant Orphange rescued her at 10 days old. Today she is happy and healthy, but in need of a corporate sponsor to cover the costs for her care & management.)
LET'S REACH OUR STRETCH GOAL: $12,000
The amount raised above and beyond $1400 will go directly to our friends at the GRI Elephant Orphanage Project for Kavala. The actual cost to care for Kavala & to support her caretakers is $1000USD per month ($12,000USD per year). If we can reach our stretch goal of $12,000 that will cover an entire year of care for Kavala & her caretakers.
No matter the gift you are able to give, you will receive recognition, a momento from Elephantopia & exclusive access to our quarterly newsletters with pertinent information about Elephantopia and Kavala.
THE IMPACT
After just one year, almost 12,000 people signed Elephantopia's petition to Pope Francis asking for the world's largest religion to say no to ivory and help be a voice for the world's largest land mammal.
After just one year, Elephantopia joined forces with the Houston Zoo Conservation Department and Whole Foods for the March for Elephants event in Houston October 4, 2013 to raise awareness about the ivory trade. The Mayor of Houston officially proclaimed the day to be March for Elephants Houston Day.
After just one year, Elephantopia is now ready to file for nonprofit status, launching a website & logo and sponsoring an orphaned elephant in Africa.
You have the opportunity to be a founding member of a nonprofit & be an integral part of caring for Kavala, an innocent victim of the ivory trade.
