Joyous Disruption
A South Philly social practice exhibition offering free workshops, live music, and poetry by artists and community leaders
The Story
Joyous Disruption is curated by five artist-members of Da Vinci Art Alliance (DVAA), a South Philly intergenerational community space and art gallery with the core mission of Building Community Through Art. We came together to curate an exhibition with a series of community-building programs.
We believe in keeping the arts accessible to all, especially in today’s social climate. Joyous Disruption explores art-making as a method through which dreams and frustrations can be transformed into culture-shaping art, offering participants opportunities to share and inspire community visions. Help us meet our fundraising goal of $3,000 to support our programs that are free of charge to everyone. Funds raised will be used to support visual and performing artists.
We welcome you to be part of our events as we build community through art.
Programs
The exhibition will be on view in Da Vinci Art Alliance's Gallery 1 from November 16 to December 18, 2022, with an opening reception on November 17 from 4 to 7 pm, and will feature visual, participatory and multi-sensory art, along with associated programs of workshops and gallery talks for attendees of all ages.
Part of the exhibition includes a night of performances and community celebration at the historic Fleisher Art Memorial Sanctuary on Saturday, December 10, 2022, from 5 to 9 pm. This event pays homage to the tradition of bonding through festive celebration, and rounds out the exhibition through music, dance, poetry, theater, performance, as well as community artisans and culinary practitioners selling food.
