The songs had been forming one by one for 5 years, but it wasn't until a rare opportunity to record in a historic Galveston landmark that Matt Mejia's first solo album materialized into reality.

"It has been a honor and a privilege to be able to debut my work in such a prestigious and historic building. "

“La Montana Que Come Hombres" (The Mountain that eats men) is a full length, 9 track example of what a local musician and a piece of Galveston history can create.

The album was recorded in one evening at the vacant 1920 City National Bank in Galveston's historic district. Its vaulted atrium, haunting presence, and hollow echo proved to be the perfect backdrop for Matt's somber tone and powerful voice.

As the co-creator for Come See My Dead Person (who plays regularly around the gulf coast) , Matt is best known for his aggressive, polkaesk dirges; however, this solo offering captures the more melancholy side.  Listeners will love the range and depth.

The lyric-driven simplicity of Matt's voice and guitar were captured by Texas-based Ice Water Productions LLC and photographer, Keith Oliver. Album art work was provided by local artist Catherine Stroud.
