LABATT MEMORIAL PARK
About the Project
What is the oldest, continuously running baseball grounds in the
world? Despite two floods, and a grandstand getting washed down river, that would
be Labatt Park in London, Ontario, Canada. Since embarking on this journey, we’ve discovered that few
people (even local residents) seem to be aware of this incredible fact.
This documentary looks at the history of Labatt Park, how it got
started, how it came to be where it is, notable events, and championship teams
that called it home. Learn about the park where baseball legends like Ty Cobb,
George "Mooney" Gibson, Satchel Paige, and Fergie Jenkins all played
a little ball.
How the Money Will Be Used
We’re incredibly thankful to those who have helped us thus far on
the project. With your belief in
the project and our ability to deliver a fascinating documentary on the park,
we are building an ode to baseball and the city of London itself.
Over the course of our research, we've uncovered many old
photographs, newspaper clippings, and newscast videos. A large majority of the
money will be used to obtain the licensing rights to these articles, so that we
can legally use them in our film.
We’ve found great photos of the London Tecumsehs, the London Supremes,
and the London Majors in prime seasons such as 1948, and 1975, to name a few,
and we’re very excited to have them be a part of the film.
We are currently in the final stages of production, and need
assistance not only with licensing visual aids, but to finance the musical
scoring of the film (done by the immensely talented Martin Rae), and to help
round out the project by conducting one more interview with a historian of the
park. This campaign will run for
30 days, and we are planning to have our premiere for the film in September 2014, at Labatt Park, so locals can come out to the historical grounds and learn a little about it.
Other Ways You Can Help.
If you’re unable
to contribute financially, simply passing this on or mentioning it to someone
else can go a long way. Thank you
for your time!
