ABOUT US
Women For independence was set up to ensure that women are front and centre in this campaign for Scottish Independence. We want to ensure that women are represented in every facet of the debate, and that we contribute to shaping the future of a fair and more equal society.
We have firmly established ourselves in the debate and have encouraged many women to become involved in campaigning for the first time. We have found some exciting new voices like Audrey Birt and Dr Philippa Whitford and have the privilege to have advocates like Jeane Freeman and Carolyn Leckie.
We have been working extremely hard.
Over the past two years we have managed to do this with a tiny budget. We were very grateful to hit our £20k target in our first crowdfunder and this made up approx 66% of our total funding over our entire existence.
With that we have been able to support the establishment of over 40 local groups; where women are acting and organising for themselves. We have 350k leaflets going out this week to local groups and these are available to Yes groups too. We are working on the second of our videos which will come out in about a fortnight. We have also been able to take on Kezia to help with administration and creating some great leaflets, advice etc
Our most recent leaflet run cost over £10k, so you can see that we are making our funding go far.
We want to have money for the final 6 weeks so that we can increase the momentum; provide more materials to local groups, like badges, balloons, materials, gazebos and in anyway we can support our voter registration campaign, and contact as many of Scotland's women as we can. We would also like to be able to support with expenses some of the women who are travelling all over Scotland as we haven't been able to before.
We have the ambition to do more, and we will use every penny wisely.
