Short Summary
Hi! Hopefully you’ve already watched our campaign video so we can skip past the “I’m Annie” and “I’m Luke” part. But in all honesty, we want to give you a little insight into who we are and what we’re up to:
Both born and raised in Columbus OH, each with a little time elsewhere (Chicago and Houston, respectively), we have spent a combined 30 years working in the food/beverage/hospitality industry. We have served Columbus at some of the top establishments, been a part of countless restaurant and bar openings, and trained bartenders and servers across the city. We have proudly come to the realization that this is our path and our profession, and we had better start working for ourselves!
So what is Law Bird? In short it’s our dream for both ourselves and the hungry (thirsty) and passionate consumers here in Columbus. We’ve been joking that we are opening our dream bar that we’ll never get to visit, and while that’s partly true, it’s not for us, it’s for YOU. We are working to create an exceptional space for our guests to come try new things, find unique favorites, and genuinely enjoy the curated selection of wine, cocktails, and small plates we have put together.
Why are we doing an Indiegogo Campaign? For us, this is the difference between being truly able to execute our vision and having to make unwanted quality based sacrifices. Like we said in the video: “It’s not necessarily about the finer things, but the right things”. So we’re not talking about picking $18/sf tile (although it was gorgeous!) but more along the lines of bringing all the details together and creating a cohesive and beautiful experience for you.
What We Need & What You Get
We are here to raise $30,000. Some of that money is going to go to a little bit of everything: the padding and upholstery on the back of the bench seats, barstools, the actual bar itself. We are working to do this the right way, and in some areas that means doing a lot ourselves (making the table tops, painting the space), but there are definitely things we are leaving to the professionals (you know like plumbing, electrical, building walls). But it is also going to pay for changes required by the city. We've already been handed one $10k To-Do list from the City of Columbus and because we want to have more than 40 of you in the bar at a time, and we want to be able to use our basement for storage, we forked it all over. All in all, there are things we know will happen, that we have planned for. It's the unknown that we don't know about!
What’s in it for you? Well, while we are working to make the space incredible for everyone, we want to make sure that we offer some EXTRA amazing perks for those of you who help make it happen. Yes, this includes swag, but more importantly we wanted to offer personally curated experiences as well.
One of our mottos is that we serve people, not cocktails, and what this means to us is that we are here to serve YOU, not just whatever we’re putting in a glass for you. Want to learn more about any beverage related topic (fermentation 101, what is mezcal?, what is this new “orange wine” category?, what makes Japanese whisky so special?) - then pick the “Up Close & Personal” perk and we will work create a two hour master class for you and three friends on the topic of your choosing. We want to get to know you better, so that we may serve you better.
The Impact
Why this and why here? Columbus is primed for new and exciting concepts made FOR Columbus residents BY Columbus residents. We are truly excited to be a part of the South High strip of the Brewery District, adding to the incredible other local businesses there that we LOVE (Antiques On High, Ambrose & Eve, Smoked On High, Daily Growler, ect). We know that Law Bird will round out the offering in the area, wholly complimenting the other businesses, as well as help to create a new destination district within Columbus.
Why wine, cocktails, and snacks? Because we're crazy about them and we're pretty sure you are too! In short, these are the things that we love and we believe that we can offer an experience unlike any that exists in Columbus.
