Story Summary
The main character Vincent "Ponz" Ponzanelli, twenty years after the performative suicide of his parents, attempts to put on the art show of the decade. However, his best friend Baggs, while attempting to impregnate a client, incites her powerful husband who threatens to ruin everything. All the while, a long-time rival and art critic comes out of retirement to judge the show.
But Why?
Le Art is a dark comedy told through the lens of the art-world personalities and authorities who govern what is considered art's post modern period. Through an exploration of themes within post modern works, the film subverts the essence of the genre by providing a kind of narrative criticism of its nihilistic and superficial qualities, as well as its aesthetics.
Future Goal
This short film will serve as an introduction to the characters, setting, and the comedic potential of the narrative circumstances. There is, of course, a fully scripted pilot episode that we hope to film via studio funding, which we are aspiring to secure through the successful reception of this short.
What We Need
What will the money go towards?
Props ($2,500) - this is the art world we’re talking about! Lavish and over-the-top, our props department is hand making all the artworks that will be featured in the climactic gallery scene.
Wardrobe ($2,500) - everything in art is fabulous especially the people and what are fabulous people without good fashion sense?
Location ($3,000) - Need we say more? We are shooting in Chelsea, NYC, the nexus of blue chip art galleries worldwide.
Cast & Crew ($6,000) - our team is working around the clock, some have families, some college debt. Either way, the last thing this world needs is a bunch of hungry filmmakers.
Editing ($6,000) - this may not sound glamorous but it really is where the magic happens. Help us color correct and edit this project to bring it all home!
The Impact
We are social commentators and extremely dedicated craftspeople. We think this message will bring a glimpse into the exclusive world of art in NYC and bring some joy, humor (hopefully) and inspiration to the upcoming generation of creatives and cultural connoisseurs. Help us take it across the finish line and become part of the magic of movies!
