Project Vyoma is a team of 10 inspired engineering students with the objective of achieving state of the art technology in aerospace and robotics.  We are to participate in IMAV (International Micro Aerial Vehicle Conference and Competition) 2017 which is to be held in Toulouse, France from September 18th to 22nd.

We believe in a society in which drones play major roles. And we are shaping the future in this domain, having already won the NASA Systems Engineering Award 2013.

A decade ago, Project Vyoma was started in R.V. College of Engineering by some passionate students. One workshop and a few young minds achieved milestones that makes them one of India’s leading student projects today.

We want to raise $15,000 in 60 days and the funds raised will be used to buy materials and components for

  • Fabrication
  • Propulsion system of the UAVs.

Our project involves a lot of testing which involves crashes and damaging components of the UAV, hence we need a lot of spares of each. Given below is our budget -

Action plan:

  1. Build a stable flying platform with autonomous take off and flying capabilities.
  2. Set up a navigation system for on-board navigation and obstacle avoidance.
  3. Create a hybrid- VTOL (Vertical Takeoff and Landing) fixed wing aircraft with the previous technologies implemented in it.
  4. Optimising the design by performing the missions in a control environment similar to that of the competition.

What situation prompted us to start a fundraiser?

  • Our parents expressed concerns over the money being spent on components along with the already costly airplane tickets and stay.
  • The need for high quality components to make the best of our knowledge which our competitors already have.
  • Some of us study on student loans and the expenses were an additional burden.

How can people help?

  • By contributing any amount that they can. Every penny counts.

What are the challenges associated with our project?

  • We do not have the amazing technology that all the other teams have in the competition. They also have people with PhDs working on it. Therefore, we require the full support from you.
  •  We must balance academics and project work. Our curriculum does not let us take semesters off.
  • People are unaware of this new technology.
  • We all have mediocre backgrounds, each one of us work very hard but only a handful of us go to France to see our hard work come to fruition.
  • We have already set high standards with respect to achievements.

What happens if we don’t raise enough money?

  • We cannot perform to our very best as we cannot procure the best materials and technology needed for this project.
  • Worst case scenario- we will lose registration money and visa costs.
  • All our hard work (of the past 2 years) is lost.

Why should you believe in us?

Project 2016-17 Roadmap (Progress so far):

  • Project Vyoma has been awarded a reduction in registration fee (registration sponsorship) by the IMAV committee (among the many international teams that competed for it) due to our outstanding performance and impressive work till date. We had to submit out paper proposal and the work done on the same to win the registration sponsorship.
  • The current project will focus on improvement in propulsion system , fabrication , increase in number of test flights and testing under real time wind conditions.
  • This year Team Vyoma is confident in a total victory in the competition, considering our current progress as mentioned above.

What’s our competition about?

The competition focuses on pushing the limits of current technological progress in the field of Autonomous aerial vehicles. It provides a platform for people to showcase their latest work in Micro Aerial Vehicles. Not only in a conference but also in practise in the competition.

An autonomous micro UAV would be a great help for domains like defense, photography, surveys. Designing and building an agile, rugged and stable UAV which can later be improved for further unmanned capabilities is what the team wants itself to get into this year.

Your money will not be a waste as:

  • The money will be utilized as shown in the budget breakup.
  • Our work in progress will be updated every week on social media handles. Contact information of team representatives will be provided for queries and correspondence. We could skype with you too.
