Little Creek Camp Overview
Mission
We are a community rooted in Indigenous thought and practice. Indigeneity nurtures progressive thought and creates local and global change. We are a think tank dedicated to the decolonization of society and the land. It is a hub for all organizations and individuals who want to modify systems of governance and create a new economy--an economy for the people that is built on empathy, renewables, and a sustainable way of life.
Vision
The vision of Little Creek is multifaceted, but with one holistic goal: decolonization. Colonization is the act of exploiting the land and in the process mitigating the Indigenous population through assimilation and annihilation. Worldwide colonization has produced a world of subjugated human beings, a commodified society, and climate change. During this current wave of colonization, all injustices have converged into the issue of global climate change. The Christian ideology that god gave man dominion over the Earth has been woven deeply in the human psyche; from this hubris, humans have exploited the Earth and each other. Globalized markets and modern bureaucratic states developed side by side, and for each other’s benefit, from a common source--from the systems of slavery that gave birth to the industrial revolution.
Little Creek water protectors are aware of this problematic reality and strive to change it through our environmentally progressive "think tank" which is rooted in indigenous thought and practice. It is time to empower the Indigenous worldview and listen to what our ancestors said about caring for our earth like a mother. We do this by:
1. Continuing the fight against the Dakota Access Pipeline in Iowa by campaigning locally and educating the public about the court case of landowners/Sierra Club vs. Iowa Utilities Board. The goal is to inform Iowans about the many levels of corruption surrounding the construction of DAPL in this state and empower them to voice their opinion to the Iowa Supreme Court.
2. Addressing local struggles in the state of Iowa such as Monsanto, Industrial runoff, pig farms, deportation, immigrant exploitation, LGBTQ struggles, police brutality, and other social and environmental injustice issues.
3. Dismantling Imperial Colonialism: resisting the current colonized administration and economy. Building a global resistance movement.
4. Building a sustainable community that provides an example of how to change the economy through indigenous, sustainable living practices.
5. Being prayerful and peaceful and respecting our sacred fire so we may help people heal from the atrocities of Standing Rock and/or any other issues that need tending. The work that we carry out is part of the healing, along with prayer, sweat and ceremony.
