Little Italy Loves Dogs
Little Italy residents are passionate about many things: their vibrant neighborhood in the heart of San Diego, the incredible restaurants, the view of San Diego Bay. But nothing warms their hearts like the dogs of Little Italy. Big dogs, little dogs, they're all part of the fabric of the community. They sit patiently while their people grab an espresso, they watch the games and (almost) never chase the bocce balls, they greet the neighbors on walks around the community. They bring a smile to every face, and now they need your help.
The Only Thing Missing Is a Place of Their Own
For years, the play field at Washington Elementary School was used as an unofficial dog park before and after school. But children and dogs have different needs, and dog owners were subject to citations when their dogs ran off-leash, so the Little Italy Association undertook a campaign to provide separate playgrounds for kids and pups. After literally years of negotiation with the school district, an agreement was forged that allows the association to manage all of Amici Park, and to dedicate an area for local dogs to socialize and exercise off-leash. You can help make this a treasured place for the whole community.
Now It's All About Creating a Great Space
Having secured the property, we're raising funds to create a great space: secure fencing, water features, places for people to sit and a safe, well-maintained surface where dogs can run and play. A variety of Little Italy events and programs raise the dollars needed to maintain clean sidewalks, flowers pots on the corners and safe streets. Now it's time to chip in to make a special place for pets and their owners.
Give a Little, Give a Lot, Spread the Word
Choose a level of contribution that expresses your enthusiasm for this heartfelt project and enjoy special rewards when you donate. Wear a Puppy Ciao! t-shirt with pride. Memorialize your furry friend with an engraved gate charm, a portrait on the fence, or a plaque on a bench.
You can also help by spreading the word! Share your support for the Little Italy Dog Park at Amici Park on Facebook, Instagram and via email to family and friends, or just tell the guy in front of you in line at Caffe Italia to donate. It's going to take a village to build a great dog park, and Little Italy is rich in community. Let's create a paw-some dog park in this amazing neighborhood!
