Long Live Glen Archer! Deo Volente!
In 1998, 12 year old Jody Anne Maxwell, from Ardenne High School in Jamaica, became the 1st non-American to win the Scripps Spelling Bee in Washington D.C. during the competition's then 71-year history making Ardennites, Jamaicans, African Americans and others of African descent around the world, proud.
The person behind her success, Rev. Glen O.J. Archer, having dominated the Gleaner's Children Own's Spelling Bee with 25 National Champions to-date under his belt over its 57-year history, has sought year after year to repeat history, putting Jamaica on the map... yet again. In addition to Spelling Bee, with 5 School's Challenge Quiz wins, and the school's only Manning Cup win, academic coach Rev. Glen Archer has almost singlehandedly built the prominence, pride and reputation that is Ardenne High School.
Today, Glen Archer, who has suffered from renal failure for the past 5 years undergoing dialysis 2-3 times per week, is ailing from life-threatening catheter sepsis, a fungal infection, languishing in a hospital bed in Kingston fighting for his life. Once he recovers he'll urgently need our help to continue his dialysis treatment, to undergo an arteriovascular fistula surgical procedure and ultimately to do a kidney transplant.
Prayers and contributions sorely needed!
