About Love is a 4 Legged Word:
Love is a 4 Legged Word is a group devoted to helping our local Upper
Peninsula Animal Welfare Shelter in Marquette, Michigan, raise money for
the community spay and neuter fund.
The community fund was
was formalized in order to create more awareness of the need instead of
relying on word of mouth. The mission to help get every pet in the
community spayed and neutered is driven by the fact that unwanted litters of cats and dogs typically end up in a shelter, creating a never ending cycle of homeless animals.
In 2013, UPAWS helped 365 cats and dog within the Upper Peninsula by
raising funds to help families pay for the costs to spay and neuter
their pets. 178 of of these animals were covered through the community
spay and neuter fund.
Spaying and neutering animals is not
cheap. The money raised from the community spay and neuter fund
typically covers anywhere from $100 to $300+ per surgery. Therefore we
need to raise a lot of money to help that many people and their pets!
