About Me
“My name is Magika. I’ve spent three decades working in the live music industry - from house to hardcore via techno, jungle and drum & bass - it’s been a journey with its highs and lows working with some of the biggest names in dance music. It’s a journey I made with thousands of party goers like you up and down the country and across the world. I want to tell my story. It’s your story. It’s our story. It’s the story of the UK rave scene from a new perspective. Together let’s… MAKE SOME NOIZE!”
About The Book
Make Some Noize offers a fresh perspective on the UK rave story from one of its original hype men Aimran Majid, aka MC Magika. Get ready for a mic drop as the veteran performer, promoter and passionate guardian of the scene gives you the inside dope on how it really went down…
After getting hooked on beats when his older brother returned from New York with tapes of Public Enemy, Magika knew he wanted to make a career for himself in the music industry. When the rave scene exploded he soon went from paying punter to on stage pied piper.
Growing up in a Muslim family in 80s Birmingham, Magika was the only student of Pakistani descent in his year at school where racism was a sad part of everyday life. Defying the odds, and the teachers who said he’d amount to nothing, Magika’s journey is a story of uniting the tribes, both inside and outside of the dance.
From his early days on the Midlands party scene, where he first picked up a mic at the Moseley Dance Centre for an Earthquake event run by UB40, to energising a crowd of 60,000 at Dance Valley in Amsterdam, Magika has been bringing the party vibes in his own inimitable style across three decades.
Friends and collaborators - including Grooverider, Andy C, MC MC, DJ SS, Slipmatt, The Ratpack, DJ Sy, Eksman, Storm, Dougal, Sharkey, Pilgrim, Nutcracka, Helter Skelter’s David Pratley and UB40 - recall the glory days of Pandemonium, Quest, Amnesia House, Fantazia, Dreamscape, Universe, The Eclipse, Rezerection, Club Kinetic and Helter Skelter.
Make Some Noize also features exclusive contributions from the legendary Carl Cox. A long-time collaboration with Carl saw Magika travel the world as part of the Carl Cox Concept playing alongside the likes of The Prodigy. “Magika could move the crowd like no other MC,” remembers Carl.
This unflinching account, as told to former NME and Loaded journalist Dan Brightmore, takes in the highs and lows of a life in the spotlight on stage and behind the scenes today keeping the vibe of his legacy alive with Raveology, The Drum & Bass Awards and, fingers crossed, the long-awaited return of Helter Skelter. Run, go tell your friend!
