Short Summary
We started The Maker Bean Cafe to bring the world of creative tech & maker culture to a wider audience, and we're thrilled with the reception so far! Now with 2 locations, 1000s of happy makers (many of them first-timers) and having served up a plenty of delicious drinks & food, and we're well on our way!
But there's more we'd like to do - which is where your support comes in!
What We Need & What You Get
We're embarking on a new phase of The Maker Bean Cafe: leading a comprehensive program of affordable kids & adult STEAM education!
We think too many kids & adults don't have access to tech education, and we're keen to support them with affordable, barrier-free access to tools & learning.
With your generous support, we'll be able to provide scholarships to underprivileged families, access to more laptops, a resin 3D printer, wood-working tools like drill presses, scroll saws, Arduino & Raspberry Pi controllers & many more tech goodies to our kid campers & adult participants. It will also allow us to spread the word about our camps far & wide around Toronto!
We think we've collected a stellar suite of perks for you to choose from to support us, including all the things we've become so well-known for: great coffee, tea & food, laser cutting & 3D printing and adult workshops. And of course, you can support us by purchasing spots in the kids STEAM camps we'll be launching in Sept 2019 and beyond! You can save up to 35% on the usual price of these items by purchasing through this Indiegogo campaign. Note: all items are available for pick up at our Science Centre or Bloor locations, or we can arrange shipment of items at Canada Post rates.
Thank you in advance for your support!
The Impact
Tech literacy is a basic requirement for today's workforce, and isn't always available through our publicly-funded school system or adult-learning centres. Through these programs, we'll be preparing kids & adults for that reality. The Maker Bean's vision has always had every age group as its target, and through this campaign, we have the opportunity to focus on those who need it most.
Particularly for kids, it's camps like these that foster new friendships & strength in a community; we're keen for kid campers to leave with new friends, new confidence, and an ability to navigate this increasingly tech-focused world, without parents having to worry about financial strain.
Other Ways You Can Help
If you can't contribute by purchasing a perk, we'd still love your help! A few ways you can do that:
-
Spread the word about this campaign to your friends, family & acquaintances
-
Stop by The Maker Bean Cafe at 1052 Bloor St. West or The Ontario Science Centre and support us by purchasing a drink or making a thing with us!
Thanks to everyone, and looking forward to seeing you soon!
