Introductions...
Hello, my name is Tom and I am threecrowscrying....and that is only partially true.
I do the designing, the prototyping, and the fabrication of our metal lighting and am incredibly fortunate in that my wife, Sheryl, helps me with everything else. The third member of our team, and in her eyes certainly the most important, is our Pill - a beautiful mutt of a cat that does little besides sleep.
Together we design and build beautifully unique metal lighting fixtures...
Why Metal, and why Metal Lighting?
I have worked with several exciting materials over the years but have not found anything to match the inherent strength and lasting beauty of metal. It has a weight that assures the hands that hold it of its permanence, developing it's own finish should it be allowed to do so, over time.
It has been apparent to me for some time that the function of goods produced in this world are wonderfully enhanced when blessed by good design and that art finds the usefullness of function as the foundation from which it's beauty is allowed to grow. The lighting I design combines the strength of metal with the tempermental beauty of light; each strengthing the weakness of the other.
There is nothing that I enjoy more than the challenge of lighting a beautiful object or space with a lamp I have designed to compliment, by it's own grace and elegance, the beauty of that space without competing with it .
Why Indiegogo?
I have completed my first collection of lamps and have been greatly encouraged by interest from a major interior design house in NYC, conversations with independent shop and restaurant owners in and out of Arizona concerning the use of my lighting in commercial settings, and by my peers in the field of metal art.
This encouragement and interest have provided the assurance that now is the time for me to move this project forward. My prototypes are all done, all are functional, and the designs have been frozen. It is time to begin the production of lamps for sale to both businesses and individuals and it is the assistance I seek from contributors here on Indiegogo ithat will allow me to purchase the tooling that will make this all possible.
With the money we are hoping to raise...
We have carefully selected three tools to add to our shop which we feel are absolutely necessary at this point in our development;
- Cold Saw
- Vertical Mill
- Tig Welder
The cold saw will allow me to make many more cuts than I am able to now in a shorter period of time, and will produce a cut that will save me much cleanup work. The vertical mill replaces a drillpress that is at the end of it's useful life, and will also provide a machining process that is not available to me now. Combined with the versatility of the tig welder we will be able to not only produce our lamps at a standard not possible now, in quantities we cannot manage now, but will be allowed that ever necessary design growth potential.
This is just the first step in our commitment to the design and production of our unique metal lighting. With the fulfillment of these primary goals, we will move directly into the formation of threecrowscrying as a LLC, and move forward with the distribution of several of our lamps to a limited number of design houses across the country, delivering them personally whenever possible in hopes of establishing long term, personal business relationships. The third step of this program includes production of our lamps on a much larger scale, and fulfilling the remainder of the steps necessary to acquire UL listing for our lamps. As all this is taking place I will continue to design and prototype new lamps and concentrate on several already needed design patents.
This is just the beginning of a very exciting journey...WELCOME!
What we are excited to do to reward your participation
threecrowscrying is all about the art of metal lighting. Save for one tier, all our thank-yous are representative of what we do.
To begin, EVERYONE GETS A THANK YOU: from well-wishers to top-tier contributers, threcrowscrying understands the importance of it all. Everyone then will receive a note of thanks along with the option of being kept up to date as threecrowscrying grows. To our first and second tier contributers, we are delighted to offer differing versions of our tea candle holders; the first tier will receive a set of three holders (with candles, of course), and the second tier will receive a single base that contains three fixed holders along with the individual candles; a bit more formal and a bit more involved than the holders by themselves.
The third tier...the third tier builds on the first two by adding a four candle chandelier providing candlelight overhead as well as that on the table for the perfect romantic meal ambiance.
The fourth tier is the big one; for this limited group of contributers I would like to design (with your help) and build an original lamp...a lamp that will never be duplicated; a lamp that you have an emotional investment in (how often is a patron provided the opportunity to work direcly with the artist in the creation of a piece of art?).
NOTE: Pictures of all rewards can be found in the media gallery/images.
What if we don't meet our goal?
Should we not raise the entire $6,800, we will use all monies contributed to purchase whatever part possible of our wish list: every penny raised here helps us purchase just these tools.... unless, of course, we break the $6,800.00 goal, in which case we will move immediately into the second and third steps of our plans for threecrowscrying (see above).
A last word...
We want to thank you for taking the time to look at our project. If you would like to help us succeed but are unable to contribute financially, we would surely appreciate your showing this to as many people as possible - individuals and companies alike - as word of mouth is a tremendously valuable sales tool. Indiegogo also provides easy to use share tools that help get the word out.
Thank you all!
