The Naomh Eanna is one of the last riveted ships to be built in the Liffey Dock Yard in Dublin. The project is to restore the ship and prevent her from being scrapped, The restoration will include a Boutique Hostel on board, wine bar and bistro, a micro brewery and a live museum and engine room to celebrate the ship's history and those whom it served as the Aran Island ferry from 1956-1988.
We need to raise lots of money about €2 million in total, however we are having issues getting investors on board. We now feel that we have to do the project in stages...the first stage is to make the ship good and paint her and get her into a condition where people can visit and support the project.
Part of the big plan is a Micro Brewery, so we have decided to work a bit of reverse practice for the project, and start the micro brewery first!
The money raised here will go towards, buying the equipment and set up of the micro brewery and start brewing beer to sell. All money from beer sales goes to the Naomh Eanna restoration fund. Hopefully this will show investors and banks that we are actually doing something, and we can start on the full restoration.
We would like to set up our brewery on board initially, but if we cant we have another location, and will move on board as soon as possible. So the money raised here goes to brewery equipment, licences etc.
The Risks? Are there any? I suppose there are! The ship may never be restored? If this happens we have a micro brewery business that we will keep running at another location. The other risk is the micro brewery fails, lets hope this does not happen.
So! Help support the restoration of an historic ship and support the creation of some jobs and a micro brewery. Donate now to help!
