I'm Kevin Quinney and I am a Milby Buffalo and the director of this film. I met Boyce Honea in 1999 and from that point I knew he bled blue and gold. Honea was the head coach of Milby High School from 1973-2003. Honea’s eye for talent and basketball intellect was slim to none. He was a no tolerant type of coach that expected no days off, not even holidays. Honea built Milby into the basketball powerhouse that was well respected and expected to win. Not only devoted to basketball, Honea was a beloved member of the community and a devout Christian being the leader of Fellow Christian Athletes organization. With all of Honea’s accomplishments it was never enough to win the state championship. The story of the Milby Buffaloes begins with Boys Honea, but it ends with sheer champions in 2004. This story is personal to me because it is a part of my life that I will continue to relive with my fellow teammates and coaches. This is a “thank you” to those players that came before me and to one of the greatest coaches that never got to achieve the ultimate victory. Paying homage to the great athletes in Milby’s history, Coach Honea and his successor, Coach Duffer, with an undefeated championship season.
Through interviews and the use of rare (and largely unseen) footage, photos and other archival material, One Team One Dream will depict the comradery of the first state champs in Milby’s history. This is to bring tradition back to those who knew the schools winning program.
The interviews will lend power to historical footage to help better the stories being told. Each player brings in his own unique personality, story, style of play, and secrets never even told to one another. The coaches will detail personal relationships with players and an in depth look on how they led the team to victory.
