Why is prairie land so important?
~1 acre of prairie can store a ton of carbon. We need anything that can help neutralize our CO2 emissions.
~It is possible for intact prairie to absorb up to 8" of rain with no runoff, preventing erosion and flooding.
~Over 200 species of bees call Missouri prairie home, which make prairies critical for sustaining the bee population.
~Livestock that eat prairie grass gain weight faster and are healthier.
~Teeming with biodiversity, prairies are living laboratories of genetic resources that we cannot afford to lose.
Our $2000 goal will help Missouri Prairie Foundation protect and maintain 40 acres of original MO prairie for one year!
