We are the Morrisville Community Farmers' Market. A grassroots organization in Morrisville, PA who are working together with local farmers and food purveyors.
Our mission is to provide a
venue where local farmers, producers, crafters and artisans come
together to provide a variety of fresh produce and related products
directly to the consumer. The market encourages direct communication
between consumers and purveyors, fosters social gathering and community
building, and promotes nutritious food choices.
In the U.S., our food travels an average of 1,300 miles to get to our
tables. This long-distance transport burns large amounts of fossil
fuels, pollutes our air and our waters, and clogs our highways,
waterways, airways and even our city streets with large food
distribution transport vehicles. Local food systems offer an
energy-efficient, sustainable, and less polluting alternative.
Farmers' markets build community ties and encourage civic life, offering
residents the opportunity of buying food directly from the farmers,
feeling connected to the land where their food is grown, and exercising
consumer choice about how their food is grown.
With our inaugural market season beginning on Sunday, September 21st, we are moving full steam ahead, but we have some financial challenges we need to overcome in order to be successful.
