Pre-Order Your Ticket Now
Why are we doing this meet-up via a crowd-funding platform? By pre-selling tickets, we can know for assurity what the audience size will be and what size venue we need to rent. That means no risk for us at no additional cost to you. We'll grow or shrink the event to meet demand.
What You'll Get
With your $35 Pre-Order ticket you will be guaranteed a seat at both the Screening + Live Podcast that follows. Quartet Macabre will be the special live musical guests. We'll also have a Q&A portion of the podcast where those in attendance at the live event can get involved in the conversation and appear on the resulting podcast.
Bonus Features
Because we don't know the specifics yet, we can't explicitly offer you anything more with your ticket price, but please know that your faithful podcast hosts have much more planned.
Following the Screening + Live Podcast (on Saturday, October 14th, 2017), the MPN hosts plan to hit the town for both dinner and an after-party. If it all happens as we're hoping, YOU'RE INVITED! We're not picking up the tab--unless we find some awesome food sponsors--but we are hanging out and we want to meet you, our loyal listeners.
But that's not all ...
For those of you who may be around earlier in the day on the 14th (or later that night) or find yourselves in town a day early or day late, due to the specifics of your travel itinerary, your podcast hosts hope to take a few additional MPN field trips. We don't know exactly when or where, but we may well be up for another movie, another meal, a hike in the Utah mountains, a Utah movie location hunt, a trip the to amazing VR Ghostbusters experience at The Void, which you may have heard about on The Sci-Fi Podcast. It will also be nearing the Halloween season and Salt Lake is notorious for it's freaky Haunted Houses. Most likely, we'll be looking for another excuse to hang out around the time of the event while everyone is in town and we might even turn these field trips into additional podcasts that feature you!
And if we get enough people attending that we have money left over our costs, we'll design and print up a batch of special edition MPN Meetup t-shirts and posters, only available to attendees. You'll still likely have to buy them at cost, but you'll be the only ones who have them!
Where to stay?
Salt Lake City is filled with nice (and not so nice) hotels. Feel free to hit us up for a recommendation or to get insight into a particular area of town. We are also big fans of AirBnB and a couple of our out-of-town hosts are going that direction. Hotels will be scarce in SLC the weekend of the event, due to another big corporate convention that is happening in town, so Station! (of The Sci-Fi Podcast) has been nice enough to secure us a group rate at some hotels in the SLC surbs. They are a ways out of town and there is no obligation to use this discount, but it is there if you'd like it. Here is the discount link you can use to make online reservations:
Book your group rate for "Movie Pod Cast" at Marriot's Fairfield Inn, Draper ($109 per night) or Springhill Suites, Draper ($119 per night) Start date: 10/11/17, End date: 10/17/17, Last day to book: 9/20/17
Sponsors & Vendors
If you'd like to sell your wares at the event or become an official sponsor, we'd love to have you. Check out the perks and donation levels section. If you make food or beverages, own a theater, make t-shirts (or anything of that nature) and would like to sponsor via trade rather than cash, we're more than open to it. Just get in touch: thewolfmanjosh@gmail.com
Why Do We Need Your Money?
Theater rental and movie licensing are the short answers, but there's more... We're not trying to make any profit whatsoever on this event, but we would love to make it even cooler, so the more money we bring in, the cooler it will get. We've decided to hold the meetup in Utah because the majority of our podcast hosts live out West, but we do have several hosts from back East as well, and we'd love to be able to fly them out. We'd also love to program cooler films, bring in special guests, and design and print some limited edition t-shirts and posters. Any monies over the cost of the theater rental will go toward these types of event improvements.
Can't Make It, But Want to Be Involved?
Some of you won't be able to afford to go. Others can, but won't be available on October 14th. We want to hook you people up!
If you'd like to support this MPN event, but won't be in town, you can purchase a ticket for a less-fortunate MPN listener and we will give those tickets away on your behalf.
Those who purchase tickets for others will get a shout-out at the live show and on the follow-up podcast for being so dang cool. You'll also be able to order a special edition MPN Meetup t-shirt and poster (if we make them), otherwise only available to event attendees.
Here are our fund-raising goals and what they will mean for you:
$1000
We hold the event in our location of choice, Brewvies Cinema Pub (like the Alamo Drafthouse of Utah) in Salt Lake City, Utah. We have a screening of one of the films they're showing at the time, and we do a live podcast review of the film afterward in front of our MPN audience.
$1500
Now we're not worried. A decent crowd is showing up and we can either start talking about showing a classic movie of our own choosing or upgrade to a bigger theater, like the local Megaplex, if audience size requires it.
$2000
Now we've got some money to work with and we can defintely get an awesome classic film to show and maybe even bring in someone from the film, like a star or filmmaker, for the screening and a Q&A. We can also start talking about special edition MPN Meetup t-shirts and posters.
$2500+
We can do a double feature! Maybe a classic and a new release. We can almost defintely get a filmmaker to come in for a screening and Q&A. We can do t-shirts. Everything we'd like to do. This is a party!
Quartet Macabre
Quartet Macabre will be the special live musical guest at the MPN Meetup Event. Quartet Macabre is conducted by Kagan Breitenbach, producer of Universal Monsters Cast and composer of the UMC theme. Kagan is also the composer of the update Horror Movie Podcast theme. They will be performing string quartet arrangements of all the Movie Podcast Network show themes, as well as arrangements from some of our favorite movies!
