My 80-year-old mother leaves for Himalayas.
Hi, friends.
I am a Korean who lives with my mother in a little valley in Korea.
My mother was born in 1934, and she got married when she was 28.
However, she lost her husband, my father, when she was 35. At the moment, I was 2 year old and my sister was 5.
Since then she had worked hard to take care of us, not herself. For a living, she has hardly had a kind of vacation or travel - not even once travel abroad.
Surprisingly, when I travelled to Nepal last year, she went with me. Because she was told that there is a 600-year-old temple in Kagbeni, so she wanted to pray for poor people around the world. Finally, she arrived in Kagbeni and I had never seen her so happy, although she cried thinking of her late husband and for poor children in the village.
Frankly speaking, she is not healthy. I guess it is why she wants to go Himalayas once more. These days, she often sighs, saying to herself, "I have done nothing special in my life. How I will be ashamed when I die!"
So, on Sep. 14th this year, my mother will go on a pilgrimage to upper-Mustang, called a forbidden kingdom, and Lumbini, the birth place of Buddha. She will ride on a pony, for upper-Mustang, because she cannot walk long for gonathritis, and also should take medicine for high blood pressure. In spite of her physical condition, I cannot help agreeing to her journey. For even to old people, dreams are so priceless for the meaning of existence and I want to see her some day go to heaven without deep sorrow and regret.
Now, I think it is time to tell you why I need fund.
First, I want to memorize her pilgrimages and share with you-sons and daughters like me and mothers and fathers like my mother. So, I plan to make a documentary film and/or a photo essay book. I can make money for our travel expenses, but I need money for a film and a book. After or during our journey, I will upload my video clips on Youtube at each gap and our travel photos and reports on my Facebook. If my documentary film is played at any film festival or place and I publish the book, I will let you know for you to enjoy it.
Second, the most important thing of our journey is to make my mother feel that her past life was great, and I'd like to tell her that you, friends around the world, cheer for her journey.
Last, people in Nepal have suffered from the earthquakes, so we will try to help people in trouble during our journey. Also, I hope our solemn journey can be a little support for people in Nepal and pilgrims will come back to Nepal.
With your money, a half goes to Nepali in trouble and a half goes to the production of the film.
Thank you all.
Deeply thank all mothers on the earth.
