Prior to this upcoming surgery we have to scrape up money in order for the surgeon to begin and post-surgery this Monday (April 1st, 2013) With all due respect to the veterinary clinic, who we are hoping to do an amazing job with Nellie, the costs are looking to be extremely high and pretty much unfathomable for your everyday life for a part-time employed girl.
She's has been through tremendous amount of struggles. I found her after she got struck by a vehicle, the lady who hit her just wanted to take her to the pound. "Just let me take her, they will take care of it", she said. I told her that I would take Nellie and just get her the help she needs. After I got her inside and comfortable, I started a search to see if I could find her owners. I posted on Facebook, on every site I could think of. I also called around to every vet clinic in the area, no one would help me without me paying a high amount just to be seen. So I got ahold of a lady named Deidra Lewis, a very generous woman with a group called Furry Friends. They help rescue and rehabilitate animals no matter the funds or outcome. She told me she could get her in to a vet that same day, the only problem is, I had to go out of town 45 minutes away. When I got to the vet clinic with Nellie the vet examined her over and told me we needed x-rays, but for them to do the x-rays she had to be sedated because she was in so much pain. While we sat in the waiting room for the results, I got a call from an anonymous caller. It was her owner. I told her I would call her after the results came back. As I hung up the vet came out to tell us the outcome. The vet told us that they will have to remove the broken femeral head and reshape whats left then stabaluse it so it can regrow. They will also need to go in and put the knee back in place and tack it so it can heal. Her pelvis should heal on its own.
Afterwards, I called her owner back, and told her the news and that the expense has came to $700-$900 and maybe more for the pain meds and follow-ups after her knee has healed. After I explained that to her, she told me she wanted her back and if she couldnt afford it she would put her down. So then I had Deidra come in so she could convince her of owner surrendering. If she owner surrenders, Furry Friends and Diamonds in the Rough has legal custody over Nellie, and if she didnt surrender we couldnt start the process of surgery.
Fortunately, she did surrender Nellie, but Nellie was also uninsured and needs help paying off her upcoming medical bills. The woman who hit Nellie also has done nothing to help. The "Nellie Needs Your Help" campaign team is doing what they can to help raise money for her upcoming vet bills but we can only do as much as we can. Please help support Nellie's recovery by making a donation to the Nellie Needs Your Help campaign today! Anything and everything helps! If money is an issue please show your support by spreading the word and helping this campaign grow!
So all in all, we know that you all have other things in life to deal with but in Nellie's eyes all she has are her people who she is fully-dependent on. Please help us give this pup the second chance at life she deserves.
