We are a group of Americans currently living and working in Nepal. Some of us are current Fulbright ETA grantees, and others are working in emergency response with the NGOs listed below. Recently, the monsoon rains have wrecked havoc on the low lands of Nepal causing death, structural damage and increasing the risk of water born diseases. We are aware of many historical issues in the development and relief sectors that have often prevented aid from actually reaching the people it is intended to help.  Therefore, we have collectively decided to focus aid efforts where we know they will actually do the most good.

We are raising funds for two organizations that we completely trust and have extensive personal experience working with on the ground.  Both organizations are reliable, Nepali-led, compassionate NGOs who have mobilized all the resources they can to appropriately respond to this crisis.  Half of the donations we receive will go to The Women's Foundation of Nepal and the other half will go to medical camps being run by the Lumbini Emergency Response Network and the Lumbini Social Service Foundation.

Women's Foundation of Nepal

The Women’s Foundation Nepal is a Nepali-led non-profit and non-governmental organisation that has been helping women and children in Nepal who are victims of violence, abuse and poverty since 1988.  They are currently working tirelessly to provide immediate rescue assistance, food, shelter, and basic medical care to vulnerable populations in need in flood-affected areas.  Funding will go directly to such relief efforts.

Statement from the Women's Foundation:

"It is a very sad moment for all of us, as our country is bearing the loss of human lives, assets, plants, and animals. It takes a long time for all these things to create or emerge through a natural process. We as an organization are doing everything we can fighting the thrust of the flood, rain, diseases.

We have mobilized our resources (manpower and relief material materials) to the fullest and very soon we will be out of the resources. We are doing everything (from bring people to our district offices, providing them food and medicine, arranging funeral) we can despite of the fact that there is flood everywhere, no electricity and transportation problem...

Our team in Sunsari and Jhapa is closely monitoring the situation and coordinating with government agencies and the WFN Headquarter to identify the needs of the affected population for response in more ways. The WFN District Offices in Sunsari and Jhapa are working tirelessly to support the victims with local funds since four days. The district offices has observed the severe condition to the children, pregnant, maternal mother and infant, and ageing population. The maternal mothers are having health related problems. Even the relief distribution from the NGOs has been hooked by the Home Ministry, as a result people in there are starving."
